Was reading in this months edition of Rolling Stone and they had an interesting story about the peace movement and the goings on at this time within them... And what I heard however true or untrue it maybe was rather depressing. Apparently Americans can't even agree on who has the right to be protesting the war, who is making the most impact and, how to go about doing it constructively. The questioned was posed " Is The Peace Movement To Fractured To Make A Difference? " On the Sept 05' protest in Washington what should have been a peaceful non-argumentive protest against the war turned out to be a fight for power over who should be there and who had the floor. Gold Star mothers fighting with college kids who where yelling at everything and war vets saing they where the only ones who could have a real impact because they had been there and people take them more seriously. One man was quoted as saing " A fight at a peace protest has about as much impact as a pro war rally at a KKK meeting " You can go to RollingStone.com and read on more for yourself..... But sence we are a community of peaceful people who are opposed to the war I thought it wise to bring this up and ask everyones thoughts on it and see what they thought or if they had heard similar stories....
To really have an impact, i think a method like J.Krishnamurti speaks about is highly advanced, he talks about how you could never make change with a system.. because the system always regenerates within itself.. what we need to do is see the unknown.. get what im sayin??
The media has been strangely silent in the face of this massive lunacy, and I see no change in the immediate future. TV and radio have the power to unify the voices of protest....what we get now are mere mentions of the fact that over 2,000 have died, without a shred of outrage or despair. The media can do something now, but will it?
I completely agree with you just yesterday I saw that in my state capital here in TN there was The Only peace protest that I know of being broadcasted on the 5 o'clock news and I thought "Well its about time!" but what I find odd is what little the media is reporting seems to be negitive of the peace movement. Whats up with that?
Actually if you think about it, the anti war movement has been amazingly effective. First off, more than 25% of Americans opposed the war before even a single shot had been fired. In the days leading upto the war, millions of people world wide marched in the streets in opposition. In the time since then, opposition to the war has grown to exceed 50%. That didn't happen overnight because Cindy Sheehan went to Crawford, it occured slowly over time, protest by protest, person by person. So the next time you read a story in a magazine or see a report on TV that downplays the peace movement remember, we are winning.
