I've read reports that some varieties of hash (esp. those from Afghanistan) are cut with opium to make it softer for longer (as this is often a sign of quality hash). Does anyone know more on this? How common is it? How addictive might it be? Even though the word opium, and everything that comes with it, scares me stupid I am still tempted to test out this hash. Has anyone got any advice (beyond the obvious 'avoid it like the plague').

    Thanks.

1 word ~ bullshit!!! Opium costs a hell of a lot more than hash so why put it in hash?

I doubt it. It will no doubt be cut with something, and not something that is meant to be smoked.

    Stick with the green !!!

I assume you have read this:
    http://www.hiptravelguide.com/amsterdam/php/article-130.html

Don't really know about Amsterdam, at least I experienced some rather dubious black hashish over there, but I don't think it had any resemblance to the effects of opium. In my country I've frequently heard rumours about opiated hashish from inexperienced tokers and at least in here it is totally an urban legend.

I personally enjoy opium hashish and would be quite happy to obtain some in a coffeeshop :D The last time I returned from Amsterdam, I dipped pieces of bubble hash that I brought with me into crude opium and the effect was extremely pleasant.

Surely hash mixed with opium would not be legal, and the police there would be onto them pretty soon if this happened?
