can someone please explain why some people love wax and why others hate it. i've heard about it causing mould in the middle of dreads weakening them, but i've also heard that it makes them stronger. whats the truth??? ps - i've not got dreads yet, i'm growing my hair so i can get them in summer (my hair is only 2 inches long at the moment )
I dont use wax only because i did on my first set of dreads haha and it made them feel weird, and it made them always feel greasy when i washed them too. It will hurt your dreads in the long run. its not really good for em. I mean im sure u can use it everyonce in a while, but i wouldnt. peace~
yeah. i'd only use wax when i'm going out to house parties and stuff like that. i get confused when i hear that it wrecks dreads, but then dread websites say to use it: 4 - Take a blob of the wax on your finger (work out any little clumps of the wax) and start working it into the tangled hair, starting, again, from the scalp and working down to the ends. Take more blobs of wax as you need it and just get it thoroughly waxed and twisted up - but not so much that it would be a sticky mess in your friend's hand if he/she were to give your new dread a playful tug. thanks for your advice
I've just got my dread done this week and IMHO, it depends on what type of hair you got. my frined has a curly hair and doesn't really need wax to help the dreads to stay together. However, if you have striaght and fine hair like me, then wax can prevent the dread falling apart. Having said this, I am also afraid that too much wax might cause problems - mould for example - so I will use wax on my frist week, then once a month thereafter. I also plan to use tightening gel whenever the dread is weakening, the gel can be washed off by water and it wouldn't damage the dread.
i can't post a pic of my hair but i can describe it . it naturally goes up an inch then curls back. its very thick on top and back. it is very 'spongey' - i mean if you push it down it will spring right back up to how it was before. any idea how fast hair grows? i'm on about 4cm (1 1/2 inches) and want to know if i'll have enough hair to do decent dreads by july. thanks for everyones help
