Yup!!! 2cnd year university student in History and English. Im loving it! My last paper was on Napoleon and the French Revolution.
My mom used to be. Her bachelors degree is in medieval history, she's working on a masters in library science. I'm a communications major, but I love history. Especially Irish history.
Have just chosen my history papers for next year - The Holocaust, New Zealand Social History and European Magic in relation to politics in the 1500's.
i'm taking a class on the history of the jewish holocaust its very intresting, although, ive noticed people get very heated during discussions and! i also did a bit on magic in the middle ages....im sure you'll enjoy that one.
The middle ages are interesting. I always kind of knew that in school, they teach you a lot of things that aren't really true, but I had no idea how inaccurate what they teach you in high school about history is until my mom went back to college and studied the middle ages. They basically had us thinking that the people of the time period were a bunch smelly barbarians who ran around killing eachother.
what kind of jobs are you guys going to get after you get your majors? what kind of careers are out there for history majors?
Some suggestions: http://www.stanford.edu/dept/history/undergraduate/careers.shtm I'm not sure what some of them have to do with history, though...
I'm going to major in Asian History, particularly Indian. I am taking courses in East Asian art, East Asian history, and Greco-Roman Paganism next year. I may study abroad in Jaipur India next spring.
Stalingrand snipers are my faovurate w2 subject. The eastern front is the most interesting front, it was the biggest and most decisive.
there isnt much you can do with a major in history (career wise) if you really want to pursue a career with it, youd have to go onto a masters or ph D and for me, thats the plan.
i think there will always be a need for history teachers, as history/herstory is always in the making. my major was psychology, back in the 70's so many of us went into psychology field, there was an over abundance of us for awhile, but psychology is always in the need too, especially in this crazy war torn world we live in today.
I had enough hours for a history minor, but didn't take the right core courses. My focus was Medieval Europe. Also took Old English and Old English Literature. Read Bede's Ecclesiastical History of the English People, and the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle in Old English. Fascinating... Career Possibilities? Well, you can become a hippie...
