I have this cactus i bought from this dude who said it was peyote. It does kind of look like peyote except it has spines on the parts its supposably not supposed to have spines on. Is it peyote? i read somewhere on the net for peyote botony that it is rare for peyote to have spines........does this mean it could presumably be a rare form? its also short and button like with othere bottons growing off of it. Its body shape is much like peyote except without the distinct skin pattern. it's skin patter is more like a san pedro in that it has rids to it instead of the unique pattern peyote has. this might just be a diffrent species of cacti i havent been able to find in my reasearch yet. Either way it was only 2 bucks at a sale.

I'm pretty sure that it's a False Peyote. I have several peyotes, they have tufts of a fuzz that grows on the top and at some points around them (but very small tufts, pin-point sized)

I've seen false peyote cactus and other types that have similar shapes but had different names. It'd be helpful if you posted a clear pic.

Curious enough, the newborn peyote cacti do have filament thin spikes coming out of them. But these fall of when they have a nice implant into the soil going for them.

Also, that false peyote has a very distinct ridge pattern that undulates... I think the peyote foundation uses this pattern for an illustration of a flowering peyote logo (ironic) They also have or used to have really good pics up of peyotes in various stages of growth.

I also have in my gallery, pic.s of my peyotes, maybe they can help you to decide. Best of luck!

i dont think it is. First of all i believe its an adult and it has about 7 ribs instead of eight and is more green then blue. also it doesn't have a flower in the center but instead it has a seed pod extending from one of it's ribs. Oh well... Im still keeping it for ornamental purposes. Thank you for your help.

I don't think that all Peyotes have a specific number of ribs, my friend. All those "ribs" come with age. Did you peek at mine that I've posted? Young fellers can have like 3 sections to 'em. Also, the seed pod is quite common, after it's flowered, it creates seed.

The real issue is that: how could it be a peyote? From a dude that sold it to you for only 2 bucks. Could be a *Miracle* for sure! Then we have to think about that whole other kettle of fish!

My peyotes are more green than blue...where are you getting all these specifications?? Peyote likes to grow short and fat, and sometimes has babies growing off of it. Peyote grows tall when it has a lack of sunlight (looks strange).

Come on dude...give us a pic!
