In preparation of the gathering in August ...

For those who are coming be aware that tents are banned .. you will be stripped of your tent at the gate of the field, stripped naked and beaten with a length of birch.

THe plan is too have a huge workshop where we all work together and make a biiig tipi with a fire in it .. we will also be tyring our hand at making a geodome and a few other craft things.

As the is the first time I have tried anything along these lines there are things which we will need people to scavenge about for and bring with them in arder to make it work .. and dont think that you dont have to because others will as they wont .. ????confusion???? .. and then we will all be left without.

I will try to get my hands on as much of the stuff as possible.

things we need. have a look at this ... this will ive you an idea of what we are trying to acheive http://www.portalmarket.com/buffalodaystipi.html notice how the outside of the cover does not touch the ground and the indie groundsheet goes halfway up the inside creating a cavity which controls the temperature with the smkoe flaps . . now how cool is that!

canvas or any tarpaulin or sheeting cloth, hemp canvas or plastic (eeeeeek). The canvas for the outside can be made from one or it can be made as one from strips of fabric. any fabric. There are ways of waterproofing fabric. see atached image of canvas plan. As you see it can be sewn together in strips. which leads onto the next items

Heavy duty thread, (nylon fishing wire?) and heavy duty needles .. lots for everyone. (swiss army knives usually have an attachment for sewing canvas)

bohemian throws .. you know the kind for lining the inside and making the place look cosy etc .. these you can take away with you.

LOTS OF ENTHUSIASM!!!!

and all manner of other stuff SAL .. ho humm.

There are lotsa of ways to find this stuff .. and using our heads to come up with alternatives .. this is gonna be filmed so it would be a good chanc to show people what can be done.

I have some canvas lying around somewhere from making protest banners...may have bits of paint splattered on them, but they're still good

And I have throws a-plenty, and some pretty robust needles somewhere.
I am determined to find more stuff than Steve!

 

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to bring anything since I am stopping off on my way back from holiday and am only allowed a small suitcase in which to have enough stuff for about a month. However, if I find any needles or anything I come up with that might be useful and doesnt take up too much room, I will bring it along. Sorry, but I'm sure you understand

well i have plenty of strong fishing line... dad is a fisherman! and i could probably get some canvas too, if i put my mind to it.

argghh. bollox i just went and got an eighty quid tent yesterday ha, should have read the forums before i set off. :&

 

you surely didnt get one of those ... 'only use one time tents' with self destruct date did you!

 

i bloody hope not! now i am skint.. normaly i go everywere i need a tent with my best mate so we use his and he cant come to this one so i had to venture out into a scary tent shop.. i started out looking at the cheep 30 quid ones and somehow they talked me into buying an 80 pound one meh

and the building of tipis will take all day .. so ya can join in when you get hre .. we will have saved you the nastiest jobs just for that reason alone

well ... acoustic instruments are a must .. go for it .. food it good .. try to bring ingredients rather than tinned stuff .. the idea is to learn and share .. if you can't cook then come learn and if you can then come share skills with others. I would like to keep it vegetarian if we can as there is so much great vegetarian food to be made. I for one will be experimenting. why the hell not. We will be having some juggling workshops as most of us can do something along those lines .. and what else? .. you tell me what ideas you have.
