Okay, I was told that everything that we intake goes straight to our breasts. So, my question is, if I were to drink some alcohol would it go to my breasts and would it affect Skye? Does tobacco go to them also, not asking because I want to smoke, just asking becasue im curious, that's what people told me and they used tobacco as an example. I don't smoke any more and I don't wanna start again, I feel a lot better not smoking. Oh, and if so, how much alcohol does it take exactly?

In some degree, almost everything gets into breastmilk. The amount varies, of course. Moms who smoke babies get trace amounts of nicotine, moms who drink babies get minute amounts of alcohol.

A beer or glass of wine won't hurt you or your baby, though. In fact, a good, dark stout (like Guiness) may help increase your milk supply because it's loaded with nutritional yeast and B vitamins.

YAY! I get to drink Guinness? Woo!

*puts on serious face* I've always enjoyed a guinness at meal-time, so that makes me happy. I love that I'm giving up alcohol to grow a good baby, but I can't wait to have my guinness back.

I was told to not smoke or have anything alcholic to drink while breastfeeding. The doctor told me that if I did, I should pump some milk before to store it and not to breastfeed for 24 hours. I'm sure different doctor's might tell you different things though.

Yes everything you put into your body gets into your milk to varing degrees. I have no problem having a beer or two every other day or so when I have newborns. The amount actually goes up for me as they get older. Because they're nursing less, eating solids etc...

This summer, when my youngest was about 18 months or so, I started casually smoking again. I stopped as soon as I realized it was giving her a terrible rash on her bum :(

So, yes, everything get's into your milk. Even gas if you stand at the pump while at the station :( When PG or nursing my husband gets gas or if I have to do it I at least stand against the wind or sit in the car while the gas is pumping. I figure I'm safe if I can't small it. I'd much rather have a little natural alcohol in my milk then gas <yuck>.
