MTV never had anything to do with "good music." Some of the best music ever recorded was done in the 80s and 90s.. The Replacements, Guided By Voices, Sonic Youth, (early) REM, Pavement, Camper Van Beethoven, The Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Apples In Stereo, Olivia Tremor Control, Jane's Addiction, the list goes on and on

Well, at least Toto was never a hair band and is "Rosanna" that was their biggest hit, topping the charts some time in 1982.

"Toto is an American pop/rock/prog band which had their greatest commercial success in the 1980s"
    - From the Wilkepidia encylopedia

Toto is prog related, as well as all the artists I've mentioned. Progressive rock is not black and white, I'm not saying that Toto is a progressive rock band, but I'm saying they are related to progressive rock. Also, David Bowie's "Space Oddity" album is Space Rock. Progressive rock is complex, it has many sub genres. Some misinformed people think progressive rock has to just sound like a sub genre of it: Symphonic Prog. Symphonic Prog is the most prog rock genre influenced by classical music.

I heard progressive elements in the song "Rosanna" in a style more towards Supertramp.

no, I think you are misinformed.

if you had your way, every song would sound "progressive" even britney spears's "Slave 4 U"

    Since when is Supertramp 'prog'?

I grew up in the 80s, before music was divided into 10,000 different genres, and Toto was always considered pop-rock, or arena rock.

I have some solo and collaborations with Steve Lukather that are definitely more on the progressive side than anything Toto ever did.

........and for all you schmucks who think there was no good music in the 80s (many of which weren't even BORN yet), pull your head out of your ass and do some searching -- there is a TON of good stuff from that era. Lots of crappy pop, too.

Supertramp is Progressive Rock related, they have progressive rock elements in the way their songs sound and the type of lyrics they have. You are the one's who are misinformed.

Well I prefer the music of the 80's rather than the 90's excpet for the grunge of the 90's which was better than any 80's music. But the music of the 80's was more similar to the 70's than the 90's were, except for the grunge connection.

i dont really like their music the only reason i listen to them is because of jeff porcaro. hes a good drummer and he plays a fat shuffle on Rosanna.

Toto is a quite good band in my opinion. Listen to the synthasizer, guitar, and piano solos on Rosanna and if you don't like them then explain why not using music theory.

Africa is a fun song. It's the only Toto song I've ever heard.

The only song I know by TOTO is "Africa" but it's a wicked tune nonetheless!
