Hey slick, I was free before we ever put boots on the ground in Iraq. I was free before we put boots on the ground in the Nam. What's this shit you're shovelin'?
My mom's really starting to bother me with her pro-war rants. She says "It's like they think it's a milestone, 2000 deaths." Then she wonders why I hate America.
The people in power in this country have done a stupid, evil thing. They should be hated, reviled and replaced. Our country - the group of us that live here - is nothing we should hate. Nor should we hate the troops who were sent to Iraq in our name.
Undeniably Gilligan, but, please, enlighten us as to how that slogan is pertinent to this thread's topic. Can ya do that?
what is the harry reid reference? I follow him kinda closly (not as I should but that's a whole other box of muffin mix) being that, well nevada....
Here is the clickable version of the graph and the reference to Reid. Click on any milestone. http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~stephan/USfatalities.html http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/11/01/senate.iraq.ap/index.html .
tee hee hee, frist is funny how could the minority party be pwning the majority again and again by use of fairly interesting tactics if they didn't have any ideas or convictions?
Revolutionary War = 54,000 War Of 1812 = 22,260 Mexican War = 113,283 Civil War = 864,511 Spanish-american War = 22,446 First World War = 1,116,516 Second World War = 4,405,399 Korean War = 336,576 Vietnam War = 58,209 Persian Gulf War = 682 Iraqi Freedom War = 2,049
It's still 2049 American lives and tens of thousand of Iraqi lives lost in the Iraq war no matter how good of a face people try to put on it. The U.S. has already spent more than half of what it did on Vietnam on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars to date.
I would like to point out that the Gulf War total was actually approximately 2,000 American soldiers over the span of about 1 year. Iraq has been 2,000 soldiers over close to 3 1/2 years. This war contains the lowest death rate of any we've fought. The only reason it's as high as it is is because we are not doing rampant slaughter of civilians, making it easier for the opposition to masquerade behind the human shield of the innocent. Not that I expect anybody to actually read what I've written but it's true. It's also true that our work has been appreciated. The Iraqis are glad to have their liberation.
I definitely think the Iraqi's deserve the same freedoms we here in the U.S. enjoy. Everyone does. I just don't think it is up to the U.S. to go tromping around the globe forcing democracy on everyone (or anyone).
