Just curious as to if anybody here has ever played the sitar or taking any lessons. My guitar got stollen last week and I was thinking about buying a sitar instead of another guitar...... any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks Brock Graves

It's been about ten years since I played one, and all I really remember was that Sitar's aren't easy to play. It's stretched out like playing a six string bass, except the strings are way up off the "fretboard" and cut your fingers to all hell. Hell, even Hendrix tried to play one before throwing it down in disgust after only a few hours.

Better to get something like one of those Line6 guitars that have that sitar mode. Heard they sound pretty freaky amazing.

Sitar is not easy to play. I ahven't played one myself, but have done enough reseach to figure out that learning Indian music is only for some on who really has the desire and the motivation to. How did your guitarget stolen? Couldn't the same thing happen to a new instrument as well?

I have been playing sitar for 14+ yrs, and its the most challenging instrument I have ever encountered. To learn the scales and picking techniques takes years, if ever! Just sitting properly with the thing is a challenge at first, and I wont go into the problems with a live mic on your gourd!

I play a double toomba standard sitar, a fine instrument with bone and pearly inlay on a dark red gourd. The case for it is huge, better than five feet, and its such a fragile instrument I am kinda 'noid to try to use it in many live shows.

But it makes the most beautiful sounds, and is worth the price and effort to learn properly.

i have decided that when i tire of guitar i'm going to get a dulcimer, i don't have the talent for a sitar. no way. but i will listen of course.

you people are nuts. dont u know the only reason to pick an instrument is up is because it'll get you laid, and the sitar definetly doesnt do much for you in that reguard.

I'll see if I can make some clips of tunes I have done with sitar. We used it alot for a time in the mid90s, and have some decent recordings from then...just gotta get em put on the comp. The funny part is, I am not even the best sitar player in our group!
