I always just have someone edit my work, and read it outloud to myself. :)

I agree with drumminmama's advice. Also try and write often, though don't force yourself and take your time. Go through it 3/4 times and read it aloud like Midget says.

I found that a patient proofreader who wrote not only that things were wrong, but why--made all the difference.

    Indeed :)

Just going by your first post; wow, yeah, you do suck!
I'm by no means an expert, but here is my corrected version of your first post (I'm sure someone will correct me, but it's a start)...

*not sure if that should be 'too' or 'so', the latter would make more sense.

Please tell me you don't normally write that badly. Surely you had an English teacher who taught you that stuff as a child. If not, what is the world coming to?

Admitting you have a problem is the first step to solving it.
    Good luck :)

o its worse because im on the computar and have the letter in front of me so i spell better, and i actuly use commas, when i normanly write i just use peroids every 5 or 6 sentences. i never got into the habbit of writing correctly, i dont know how to use a : or a ; or how to structure diolouge. i dont know what an adverb is but i pretty much everything else fine like nouns, verds, adjectives, conjections etc. grammer wise im still in 7th grade

try reading it out loud to hear what it sounds like. if you run out of breath before you reach a period or a comma, then add one

most communities offer courses and workshops to hone your writting skills, try looking into your local community college courses and see what they offer.

The best bet would be pay attention in English class...it's free and all the information you need should be in your textbook, you know?

I fought it when I was in school and then ended up having to pay for writing classes at the college level...but it's all the same thing, really.

We used this book...it was our bible:p but it has all the rules.

i was really lucky with my first writing class and the professor. she was the coolest woman. she would just have us write and not worry about spelling, punctuation, ect, just let it flow. i didn't even know i could write until i took her class, she motivated me so much. later i took the writing classes that disect and hone in on the punctuation, spelling, ect. but i've become a good writer and been published quite a few times, because of that wonderful instructor that just let us go for it.
