they are different faces of the same coin...they both want big bloated government, they just differ on what parts should be the most bloated...
They both piss me off, I know that much for sure. They sit up and DC and bicker and get NOTHING done. And we pay them shitloads and give them practically infinate budgets. It is just a mess. I would love to see the power return to the states because our federal politicans are a joke, and they have sucked all the power and promise out of local governments. A country this big with a budget as big as it is only going to be mis-managed, no matter who's in charge. Money will be lost everywhere, and time will be wasted everywhere. I think what all of us can agree on, regardless of political affiliations, is that our current system is a mess.
State politics have been completely undermined by the federal gov't. The federal gov't takes so much taxes out of us states can't get enough tax dollars to do anything. The federal gov't makes sure the states rely on them. But trust me, as you can see I am here in Texas, so I know what it feels like to have someone as crappy as Bush as a leader of a state too! I have much experience in how crappy state leaders can be. =P
And if the states had all the power, abortion would still be illegal and Jim Crow laws would be common. To paraphrase Churchill; our current system is a mess, but I can't think of anything better. Regardless of the system, the decision makers (that would be us the voters), take an interest and do the best that they can.
schools with a big amount of mexicans and blacks are targeted the most...............like in my school
In the fight toward a perfect world there are things that we can do - I notice that Orly votes - I just know that everyone else does. We got E-mail now makes it easy to contact your local and fed. reps. No they will not listen to your individual voice on a fed level but some staffer will make an entry into a spreadsheet and if there is enough public opinion on a given issuer Mr. congress critter will get wind of it. I do hope that everyone that has an opinion here goes to each and every school board and city council meeting. That is the place to start. Too many folks sit home and bitch.
hey hippiepaul, i totally agree with what you are saying. i sign so many petitions daily through the internet and they are counted and it feels good to stand up for what you believe. you and i are of the same generation and we found out what protesting and voicing your opinion can bring. we helped get nixon to resign, we helped stop a war, we helped the civil rights movement, the ERA and human rights. i have been a protestor/activist since the 60's and love doing it. hippiewise
not to offend but young people (being one myself) don't always choose the clear path, nowadays everything is so centered around money. I think the kids are blinded by the monetary boost and the fancy rock and roll music army commercials. with your "just say no" approach...well....that shit don't work.
a young person is 18 years old. What do you want us to do, hold their hand all their life? going into the military is a very respectable thing to do. I'd much rather the poorer parts of society go into the military and improve their situation than sit on welfare/deal drugs or whatever. The military is not the devil.
You're a wise man! I'd rather have some army official try to recruit my kid then some half ass Christian, Muslim nut who'll pollute my child full of fairy-tale useless crap he or she will probably never need in the future other then to discriminate.
