The next time you feel like God can't use you, just remember... Adam was a failure Noah was a drunk Abraham was too old Isaac was a daydreamer Jacob was a liar Leah was ugly Joseph was abused Moses had a stuttering problem Gideon was afraid Samson had long hair and was a womanizer Rahab was a prostitute Jeremiah and Timothy were too young David had an affair and was a murderer Elijah was suicidal Jonah ran from God Naomi was a widow Job went bankrupt John the Baptist ate bugs Peter denied Christ (three times) Martha worried about everything The Samaritan woman was divorced, more than once Mary Magdalene, well, you know... Zaccheus was too small The Disciples fell asleep while praying Paul was too religious Timothy had an ulcer...and ... ... ... Jesus was DEAD! NOW...no more excuses! God can use you to your full potential. Besides, you aren't the message, you are just the messenger.
Thank you very much! That was a nice thread, since that's a common thing that troubles Christians (didn't happen to me yet though- ), now the interesting thing is that I heard a sermon by Joyce Meyer about this today. I noticed the person with the biggest flaw here too: YES! That's deffinately a drawback!
what about Thomas? he demanded physical [visual] proof of the ressurrection... John sounds like a Cynic [like the old ancient greek cynicism school of though]--you know, the living in the wild, wearing animal skins, and generally throwing away social norms...did he talk down upon the rulers of the land too? i am not sure... but yes, i do believe it is locust beans as well, and either way, whats wrong with insects? they are a good source of protein
Ok, a few questions. Moses had a stuttering problem? What's wrong with being "too young" or "too old" or "too small" or with having long hair? Where does it say Adam was a failure, save for your own opinion? Where is the evidence that Mary Magdelene was a whore?
what with that "Jesus is dead" thing at the end? that is confusing and makes little to no sense at all
Thats something ive never really understood about Christianity... most christians agree people are no perfect, and there is no way to be perfect.. but yet the Bible says: Mathew 5:48: Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. so whats up?
Well, I love you guys too much. It's like trying to stop partying with your buds. It's like trying to leave part of you behind. I am a legend here in the Christian Forums, an asshole, but a legend nonetheless.
I never quite understood that one either. As in the case of Abraham/Sarah, he was near triple-digit age when he had a son. And Sarah was well past the point of being able to give birth. Adam failed to obey God a short while after he was creative. I am not sure about this one, so this may or may not be write. In the NT it says that Mary Magdalene was a "woman from the town/market" which (because women had very few rights to hold a job) could have been interpreted as whore.
Adam made a mistake for sure, but according to the Bible he fathered the entirity of humanity. That's hardly someone I'd consider a failure. As for Mary, as per my understanding, there's nothing that connects Magdelene with the woman of the market" except the fact that Magdelene is mentioned pretty soon after the other Mary. The fact that she's basically a leader of the church according to the gnostics makes me wonder if she wasn't demonized by the church... a strong case can be made for that, actually.
Now, don't be jealous...there can be only one Libertine. But, you're still kind of important, little buddy.
I know, I know. You couldn't think of a good response, so you chose to escape into your world. But, that's ok. It happens to the best of 'em. Jealousy will do that. Make nice people mean. But, I'm such a forgiving person, I'll let it go because I know you can't help it.
