I heard that if you go on birth control after a while you can mess up your ovaries (sp?) or something and it can make it so you can never have kids, is that true? because my girlfriend is thinking of going on it, but I head that can happen? also is it true you get real moody on it? I'm fine with condoms for now if that stuff is true...

I'm too tired to adequately comment on the first part.

As for the really moody part, it depends on the person and the pill. If she does have emotional side effects, she can just keep trying different pills until she finds one that doesn't mess her up. The first pill I tried made me curl up in a ball & cry for a week straight each month. But, after trying a few others, I finally found one that doesn't bother me too much.

That said, are both of you virgins? If not, have you each had a full gamut of STD tests since your previous partner? If no to both, you should still use a condom, even if she does go on the pill.

I think the ovary stuff depends on the type of birth control you're using. depo can have some long lasting effects on fertility. the pill, not so much. the patch is pretty new, but probably not (since it's the same meds as the pill, just delivered differently). An IUD left in for too long can definitely cause damage. As for other methods, well, I haven't educated myself enough on them because I haven't had major issues with the pill.

as for moodiness, well, that just depends on how you react to the balance of hormones. On tricyclen, no weird moodiness. with depo, I was moody around shot time (every three months). on alesse, my current pill, I've started getting PMS (which I don't realize I've ahd until after the fact, after I've been a raving nonsensical bitch). Every woman reacts slightly differently, it's hard to predict how you'll react emotionally to different birth control types and brands
