DENVER — Residents of the Mile High City have voted to allow adults to possess up to an ounce of marijuana. Authorities, though, said state possession laws will be applied instead.

They will apparently still prosecute under state laws, but at the very least, it will probably sway cops to only confiscate the marijuana and let the "offender" go with a warning.

But the Denver cops won't enforce it! This is a big step forward.

But, according to the articles, the Colorado state troopers will still be able to enforce it. Whether this is true or not, I don't know.

It is definitely a good start, but there is still a long way to go.

I can only guess that Canada is next. Pro-marijuana protests up here are much stronger and more common than in the states. I think it was just that we need to see something happen to get a boost.

I have already heard about activists suing the city council and the city police for not upholding the city ordinances if they charge under state law. This is a really really good event.

    Not at all.

I don't care what ADULTS paying THEIR OWN BILLS in THEIR OWN HOMES do.
Maybe if you smoked dope less your brain could process that after multiple pages on the subject.

Don't be a dickhead. We need more mods to keep people like you off of this forum.

Twizz, IronGoth doesn't need to be kicked off. He has different opinions, who cares? That's what is unique about opinions, they don't have to be based off facts. ;) Why are you on this mod kick anyway?

And IronGoth, what makes you think the feds are going to get involved? As it is now, their influence is rapidly waning, and they realize that. Denver is not going to be transformed overnight into Amsterdam. It is going to be the same as it was last week, and like every other American city. Which is thousands of people regularly smoking, selling, and growing cannabis. This Denver initiative helped to even further mainstream the issue of prohibition repeal, and other cities WILL take suit. Then those cities will influence state policy, and finally federal.
