Has anyone ever read this book? I read it long ago after a friend of a friend let me borrow it and it made a huge impact on my life. I say that anyone who has ever felt alone, scared, wounded etc...they should read it.
you should totally read it a.s.a.p. it is really good, maybe a bit disturbing in parts but nonetheless interesting, it'll keep your attention.
I read the book, loved the book, lent it to a friend and never got it back I am currently expanding my book library and really want to get this book.
I would -LOVE- to read this book... But I can't. Every time I go to order it in at a bookstore, they don't have it in stock or they can't order it in. Every library I go to has a copy, but it's either missing or ripped to shreds. *whines* Does anyone know where I could get a copy or even download one?
A friend of mine let me borrow it a couple years ago and I read it in about two days. It was the quickest read I had had in years, it was that good. She said I would be able to relate to it, and I must say I did. The book was very lifelike, and very personal delving into the life of a confused teenager, and was written very well. I loved it and would suggest most people to read it. It's amazing!
Depends on who is overseeing. I would say it's appropriate, but most others probably would not. I read it when I was 17. I loved it. This is the kind of fiction I am a complete sucker for. Some other books that tore me to shreds the same way this one did are: She's Come Undone and I Know This Much is True both by Wally Lamb
If you like this book, I felt the same kind of vibe with the book "The Fuck" by Arthur Neuresian. Totally good book, at times little weird but still, a decent read.
I think this book is a wonderful read and i think that anyone with a passion for reading should definatly buy this book. And yes i do think that its appropriate for 9th grade...
I liked Perks alright, still like Catcher in the Rye better however. Sometimes i found the characters to be a little weak, but i loved the musical refrences, and the mix tapes he made i duplicated instantly and they're great too!
i thought it was unreal when i read it, and still am not sure its all real experience or what its based on ;P but i thought it was excellent... i like how the patterns in his life kept shifting, but he kept progressing regardless.. sometimes things were flowing his way, sometimes back the opposite way, but he was learning to be detatched and learn that it all happens for a reason and just getting along with life on its own terms. i could definatley relate to that.... i thought it really captured the confusion some people experience growing up in this world perfectly... and the distance some teenagers go through, when trying not to be so introverted and 'participate'. i did think it was a little unrealistic though, when everyone called him a wallflower and cheered and drank to him. how many groups of people do you know that would cheer and drink to that kind of person??? i think it lost some of its truth when it got into the emotional and romantic aspects of everything, but i can still get into that cuz im an emotional kinda person myself.. and i find that makes me most honest regardless of the bullshit that took me there, and thats what matters...so this was definatley a good read. also though, kinda thought it gave acid abad reputation to those who may not know too much about it.. i think acid is one of the safer drugs that arent a deadend on this planet, so that kinda put a hault in my enjoyment of the book for a while. i loved what he did with pot throughout the story though, and how he mentioned vegetarianism several times...
one part i really liked...was when charlie is watching some infomercial selling some bullshit(theres a surprise)...and he calls the guy up and says "hi i dont wanna buy [whateverthefuck your selling], but i hope your having a good night"
This is one of the most beautiful and sad books I have ever read. I have read it many many times, and each time it makes me see something in a new way. I would definitely reccomend reading this one, especially if you know what it feels like to be alone. I agree with you, though, Scarlit Rose Flowz, it did kind of give acid a bad reputation...but that aside, it is definitely one of my favorites.
read it last summer. amazing book. charlie's one of those characters that anyone can relate to in some way. i love the way it's written, and the end is really good. i need to reread it soon
It's cray I saw this post. I have a friend I was just thinking about today that I haven't seen in a while, that impacted my life in a huge way, that for all I know is dead right now. Anyway, he had told me to read this book. Gauranteed it is the next on my list.
