i just watched the ninth gate with johnny depp, and i was just wandering if "the nine gates to the kingdom of shadows" was a real book.

Jonny Depp's worst movie, right there.

And I doubt that book exists, lots of movies like that make up their books. Like in Dead Poet's Society, the book of poems they have isn't real :(

That movie is based on a book called "The Dumas Club" by Reverte and totally misses the point of the book altogether so I doubt there is a real book of the ninth gate.but do check out the dumas club, an excellent read

i'll second the recommendation of the the club dumas - great read, lots of insights on the world of rare book collecting (if i had the money!). i wish my spanish was better though - if i remember correctly it was written in spanish and felt like a translation at times.

and no, the ninth gate is completely ficticious. so is the delomelanicon that it claims to be based on.
