You basically summed it all up in that article. There's really nothing to add, except it's good news that psychedelics are getting decent coverage that doesn't consist only of degradation and negative propaganda. Hopefull, the results will be favorable.

Well earlier on another MB someone posted this too, and it just made me even more sick of this dirty country who wants to control everything that exists due to the immense amount of fear looming everywhere you go. This country is founded upon bullshit; if you plant ice you're gonna harvest wind. We talk about freedom like it's a god-given right, but an anonymous group of fat rich MEN (the .gov) can take it away from you over some BS. Don't see how this makes any sense, but hey I should just shut the fuck up and keep eating my bowl of bullshit.

These people come here from other countries because of this illusion of the american dream. They are fooled by our propaganda, and they decide that America, the land of oppurtunity, is where they should be. Well... I'm in America, and I can't wait to get the fuck out. These people can't even practice their religion (part of the idea that america is the land of the free) because a bunch of conservatives are SCARED of something that has been taking place ritualistically for thousands of years. FUCK does anyone even realize that it's a huge possibility that religion came from drugs?

Whether people want to believe it or not, America is a big ass lie, and shit like this should just open your eyes.

The best way to win the war on drugs is for everyone to learn to synth everything and flood the USA with shit loads of free drugs, sure many of us will go down but, hey its a war!

i agree with psylence. if they want a war on drugs, then we better give them one. im sick of not having personal freedom. I take care of myself. I feed myself . I am myself > i own myself......so i should be able to do what i want to myself. it is a war on personal freedom, thats what this country was founded on, wanting more! now the government has became what it broke away from. bullshit huh? ]
if you ask me if we got enough people(and there are MILLIONS!!!!!) to consume Drugs in public and protest , then we will win!! just like women gfot thier rights. and the blacks did the same.
We the people need to stand up for what we believe in and be ready for a change. otherwise they will keep on fucking us in the ass.
Some people are too stuck on thier place in the social game or rat race and are comfortable. it scares me too see people comfortable with a government that lies cheats and then gives us bullshit rules to live by. I am ready for sacrifice for my and our rights as humans! what do you guys think?

Clearly, you know little of politics in other countries.

Compared to EVERYWHERE else, the US IS the land of the free!

Can you name the countries where the goverment lacks legal authority to censor the press?
There are 2. In the whole fucking world- 2 countries with freedom of speech! Venzuela is one. Guess the other one.
( Are you aware that the US, and therefore the 1st amendment, controls what is accessible on the internet? The europeans don't like this, so they are currently seeking to take that control away- and that would be a disaster for sites like this and erowid, etc., because in euorpe, such sites could simply be outlawed.)

How about the nations where the right of habeas corpus exist?

Or the countries where the government is specificlly forbidden from practicing arbitrary arrest?

And where do you have to go to have the right to refuse to participate in self-incrimination?

    The US- that's where!

    ---------
    spidermanUFO,

"We the people need to stand up for what we believe in and be ready for a change."

Surley this would work- but few dopers walk the walk. They just talk the talk.

Picture it- A bunch of stoners uniting to pass a law!?! It ain't happening!

The problem is that we're all true libertarians (and I don't mean members of some mis-named political party). We don't believe in telling others how to live thier lives. And telling others how to behave is the essence of law.

We go to hempfests, get stoned, and wallow in self-righteous indignation.

    But do we vote?

    ---------------
    nesta,

My guess is that the court will eithier

    1) decline to issue a binding descion

    or

    2) render a decision against the church because the laws banning DMT pre-date the churche's establishment in the US.

The second possibility has a near precedent:

In the early or mid 80's a very similar case was brought by the Zion Coptic Church involving the sacremental use of weed. If I recall correctly, the court ruled against the church because the anti-MJ laws pre-dated the establishment of the church.

Gecko, most of what you list as positive point for the United States exists soley on paper and in the minds of ideolouges now. For example, if the United States truly believed in Freedom of Religeon, this case would not even be happening. The media may be technicly allowed to say whatever they want through freedom of press, but they dont, because they are strongly discouraged from criticising the gov't during this war. After New Orleans was sunk the media was so horrified with FEMA's response that they finally started to say something bad about Bushy and call it like it is. Members of the media even came out and admitted to being told "Dont say this, or dont show this in your reports" and following it, because if the news agencie's say something that the White house doesn't like, they might not get invited back for press conferences. Habeas Corpus was thrown out the door by Lincoln (but oh, he freed the slaves, so its okay) and it can easily be thrown out the door again. All you have to do is be labeld a 'Terrorist' and they can throw you away without allowing you to even call a lawyer.

America was the Land of the free. America Should be the land of the free. But it isn't. There are a lot of countries that are worse off than we are, but there are plenty of countries doing just as well or better too.

it is a matter of how free we can be. sure america is a GREAT place to live, but it stiill has a lot of unnessicarry bullshit laws that need change. and change doesnt happen unless we make it happen. i am sticking up for what i believe in and i hope you guys do the same. it is time for ANARCHY!! fuck the goverment1

    plyman,

But the press IS free. don't mistake mainstream news for THE press. Rolling Stone critizes Bush and company regularly and harshly.

As for freedom of religion, that's the point of the case- is it a legitament use of a religion and a religious sacrement by the terms of US society? Heard of the Universal Life Church? Check it out- a blantant attempt to use religion as an excuse to violate the drug laws.

Religious freedom doesn't superseede the civil rights of others. Muslim wackos believe thier religion requires them to kill infidels- shall we allow that particular expression of thier beliefs?
Some measuring rod must be used. An the usual is the mores of the society in question- in this case the US.
Not to mention that the constitutional "freedom of religon" garuntee is arguably a "freedom FROM religon" clause.

habeas corpus has pulled my ass out of jail- and the attempts to circumvent such constituional rights in the name of terrorism are steadly being knocked down by the courts.

As far as denying anyone legal consul- that is not something that occurs within the US to those legally here.

These unnamed countries that are better off- what makes them better off?
And can I publicly say, "The president is an asshole; he needs to go back to what he's good at- being a coke head" about the leaders of those countries?
And are those countries as flexible to legal evolution as We are?

    spiderman,Ufo's,

    I'm with you...

But it takes a decisive act to crystalize public reaction. Got a matyr handy?

And you must attack the source of the enemy's power- the UN sponsored Uniform Treaty on Narcotics. It is that authority that ultimately outlaws weed, not the US goverment.

Personally, if I ever get popped for weed again, I'm fighting the hell out of it on constitutional grounds.

You're preaching to the chior. I love the values that America was founded upon, but it's all unraveling. We're losing our freedom of speech, we're losing it all very slowly. If George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and the like were alive today, they'd be sick to their stomachs. The government has taken this beautiful country and twisted it into the exact opposite of what it's supposed to be.

i say if the govt wants a war we should give them one theyll never forget. we should start encouraging pro drug ppl to start becoming active learn how to make as many drugs as known to man and then we should do everything in our power to make the govt powerless like dosing the entire country with massive amounts of psychadelic drugs. it would be an armageddon the organized dissorganization of the country or the entire world oh just imagine the possibilities.

Haaahaaahaaaaahhhh! Haven´t laughed so good for years!
Free speech in the US? Bullshit! No censorship? Good joke!
If you ever should come near the Canadian border, watch some news on TV, first on USAmerican TV, then on Canadian. Compare what you´ve just seen, and you´ll find out, how much more info the non-US news contain.
I know only few countries who claim to be "democratic" and censor more than the US!

    Btw:
I live in Europe (in Germany to be more precise) and must say, that you don´t know anything about the situation here. O.K., they also censor the media here in some ways, but I bet that you won´t find a single country on earth, where there´s no censorship at all. But here´s definitely more truth on the news than in the US!
Folks, let´s face it: democracy doesn´t work. Man has not been made for democracy. And:
Imho, it´s the biggest mistake that men are elected, only because they are the the loudest at shouting "I can do this job!" Deep inside yourself you should know, that it´s best to keep these people away from power as far as possible. But this is democracy! It doesn´t work and it never will! We only have it, because we don´t know of anything better!
