I just got my first tattoo under a week ago on my shoulder. It wasn't really all that painful, more like annoying burning pain then really painful pain. It was very tolerable. Only hurt a little bit for the first hour or so and then I didn't feel anything. Itched a bit after about 3 - 4 days. Just remember to not scratch it or rub it. Keep it moist with A&D ointment at all times (keeping it moist helps with the itching) but don't suffocate it, just a light layer. If it itches, lightly slap it. Keep it clean.

Depends on how long the tattooing goes for.. Up to about 3 hours of tattooing is pretty damned uneventful (sort up like having someone slapping your sunburn) but after that when the endorphins run out is when it starts to hurt, of course depending where the tattoo is being applied. (Some places have more nerves than other) :D

fells like a needle poking at you for hours on end

I have three tats that took about 3 hours each and a bunch of smaller ones...getting it doesn't really actually hurt (I mean most people would be easily able to bear it) unless you're getting one in a really sensitive spot. one of mine is on my left bicep on the inside, that kinda stung but still nothing too bad. if you're getting it on the shoulder, that's a very good spot pain-wise (I got one there)

I just got my first tattoo last Monday. :D

For the first few seconds it hurt a little bit, but then I just kinda got used to it and even started liking the feeling.. it's a weird adrenaline rush. :p I was afraid it'd hurt a lot, I got the tattoo in the back of my neck and it just seems like a really sensitive place but obviously I was wrong.
It's a lot worse now that it's healing coz it's itching so much and it drives me crazy.

My forearm tattoo hurt like hell, especially 4 hours in with two hours to go.
Then i swelled twice the size of normal for a week, from all the trauma.

Aside from that, my others ones just burn a little, nothing too bad, more
annoying than painful. I have had some hit a sweet spot, like on my
shoulder joint. But hey, they were all worth it.
