not to label anone as anything as i know some people dont like being labeled but what is everyones general views on hippies the hippy movement ond hippy attitudes?
If your refering to the generally positive, optimistic, open-minded, accepting attitude that could be labled as 'hippy' then yes Its definatly the way to be
i know its the way to be and nothing is going to change me. 'im a happy hippy' but just getting some ideas of other people. i know what i think and i thought by coming on this forum that it would be the general convo but its not so i thought id start one. so what are your thoughts on the whole thing?
Green grass 'n flowers, peace, love, freedom those are the basic essentials I find that make life such a worthwhile trip.I believe thats what the hippy or freespirit longs for is a simple and beautiful way of life brought about by positive actions and the ability to enjoy the free things in life that god left for us rather than getting caught up in the rat race of modern society.
Hippy Attiude= Always and Forever... Like Beyond the fuckin shit man!!!!! EXPANDING!!!! otu of the box... the box of the times.... they can never keep us down!!!
thankyou personal chaos. there is hope for mankind after all. thought i was the only one. you get some real jumped up shits on here sometimes saying things like 'im above it' trying to place themself in a position that makes them superior, sorry cant spell well. thats the steriotypical human nature for you. so much for being superior. (cant spell again)
hippie is freedom hippie is just a label, though free the soul from maya and the gods shall bless you eat the sacred gift from the gods & see the light
To me, being hippie is a way of way of life. It means having a free-spirit, caring for others, being openminded and respecting mother earth. I'm not big on labels, I find them to be very limiting. At a pretty young age, people started calling me a hippie (like it was an insult) because of the way I dressed and the beliefs that I had. I guess the label just stuck and as I got older- I enbraced it!
wel i think hippy is a state of mind, positive thinking, freedom, open minded about other things and other people. the things like the clothes they wear, drugs, going about in bare feet, type of music you lisen to etc are just things these sorts of people like rather than it being necessary to be a hippy. i dont think being labelled as a hippy means you have to be a certain kind
Ideally it would be great, but I've met precious few people in RL or online that exhibit the true hippie ideals as I understand them. The open-minded acceptance and love seems largely to be extended only to members of their little clique which makes the whole notion of a so-called "hippie attitude" to be little more than a line of bullshit. This was the case 30 years ago and seems to be the case with the "neo-hippies" today... there is no real hippie attitude- it's just a label hijacked by a snotty, stuck-up little elitist fashion clique.
I'm hippie and have been since the mid to late 70s (depending how you tell time). I vascilate inasmuch as there are times when I am proactive and other times when I want to simply not vote. I question authority. I keep to myself. I value my friends and cherish my freedom. I don't believe a look makes or breaks me... but I do like my long hair
i think the hippie attitude is singular to each and every person who would consider themselves a hippie. i mean, if you're hip how do you know if you're a hipster or a hippie?
Yep- a basic misunderstanding and misappropriation of the term. When I was growing up there were some folks refered to as hippies- older kids: dudes with long, greasy hair who reeked of pot and chics who stroked their egos... if you didn't smoke marijuana or have long hair you were either ridiculed or ignored outright. The 'ideals' were largely lost and the label was adopted as an excuse to get high and be lazy. I have met some people whom I would call true hippies. They are very industrious folks... hard working souls who give other people a fair shake. One or two do smoke weed occasionally but don't push it onto others. Thery are quite down to earth and would not call themselves hippies. I came here and didn't know what to expect... browsing through the discussions I uncovered what appeared to be witty, intelligent banter among like-minded young folk but in my attempts to participate discovered that for the most part, history has repeated itself. As I'm not quite old enough to be a 'real' hippie if I would even label myself as such so I assumed that I might find some like-mindedness among the "young hippies" but instead have gotten a sense of déja-vu... sans the smell of weed- a handful of 15-17 year old male egos being stroked by what might be refered to as a cyber-harem. My attempts at joining in the few worthwhile discussion threads evoked the sense of crashing a party of strangers and for all intensive purposes, talking to myself. I will say that there are a very few people of various ages who here seem to be what might be considered a hippie ideal but the vast majority are little more than poseur fugitives from planet myspace or hot-or-not.
i think that it's really sad that "hippie" has become just another clique in some ways. i understand completly when you say that you find it difficult to find like-minded people to converse with. i consider myself to be a hippie because of belief system and the way that i live my life- not because it's cool. actually a lot of people think that i am strange because of it. i live in a very, very, conservative place and when i speak my mind, most people either get angry and tell me that i am going to hell, or they just think i'm plain nuts. that doesn't stop me but it can be frustrating. and stinkfoot- i hope that i didn't make you feel like you were talking to yourself.
It's sad but it's also human nature. To me, rightly or wrongly, being a hippie means marching to the beat of your own drummer; being your own leader. Much of what I see here is the pathetic sheep mentality of clique-dom... a sad by-product of lower self-esteem that plagues people struggling to reach adulthood. Instead of looking within themselves to find identity they look for others to follow. It takes courage to be yourself when your social environment is so inhospitable. To me that is infinitely more true to the hippie ideal than a pack of ego-strokers telling one another how "hot" they are. Oh--- and thank you for your response!
i've caught more hell from people CLAIMING to be hippies that from anyone else, to be honest. whether or not they were really hippies is open to as much discussion of what communism really is, i guess. but i dont' wear the hippie uniform or staunchly shout the doctrine, so i guess i don't consider myself a hippie. but i believe in treating people well, helping my fellow people, living close to nature and raising my children in a tolerant and loving house. i have a lot of things in common with the supposed hippie mindset, which is why i'm drawn here, i guess. but in point of fact, the hippies of durango judge me based on my hand me down t-shirts and jeans from walmart and the fact that i don't wear the same things that they do. it's tiresome and kind of embarassing. i'm embarassed for them showing their true attitudes. but i suppose i've only met a couple true hippies if that's the case, and they're really cool people.
