Do you guys see that story about how us Aussies and you Kiwis should open our doors to countries up north? Howard said basically no but Clark said yes. What do you reckon about foreigners, however bad their economic circumstance, taking our jobs etc?

    taking OUR jobs?

Well, I don't knwo if half the jobs going could be called ours anyway - I mean for the most part either the jobs are ones that poeple here don't want to do or they are for an internationally owned company - in the latter case they can hardly be called ours.

as for people working here, why not? I think that opening the doors to foreign workers expands the intelligence and experience of everyone involved as you will probably get a broader outlook and experience base.

Also it's kind of give and take - yes people from up north can work here, but equally (especially if by northners you mean the UK and the like) their governments will probably be more lenient when it comes to giving Aussies and Kiwis work permits.

considering we have jobs to spare.... with the lowest unemployment rate of (AFAIK) any western country, we may as well open up the doors.

apples are going rotten, peaches are spoiling.... we need to pick this stuff so that it doesn't go to waste.

i think there are logical limits though, as with anything.

The surrounding neighbours of Oz yeah. Too many people and not enough work for them.
