Could someone here tell me why there were 2000 pigs wandering around for Jesus to cast demons in to? What do Jews need with a herd of swine? Just curious.
yaya , i don't know exactly what yooz asking but i do think about this pig story sometimes . i'm living in Pigstink , Iowa USA . in fact i was once a pigfarmer myself . now , these days i am very nice to a pig whenever i meet one , and pigs are generally treated so cruelly by modern agro-business , and the old-time jews may also have been quite insanely evil and disrespectful toward pigs . snakes , too , i guess . funny , odd . did you know that pigs actually hate snakes and are most unhesitatingly expert at killing them in the wild ? or ...hmm...is the pig really a jewish holy animal and so they would never eat one . i think christians should pay more attention to good teachers of judaism and get all these stories of pigs , snakes and camels in perspective . maybe then nobody would ever put demons in them again .
There were more than just Jews in Israel. It was a trade center for the Near-Eastern world (and it still is). I don't think we are told that it was Jews that owned the pigs. Any Gentile could own pigs for the same reason we do today.
Yeah, it happened near a Gentile town, I remember reading that the Gentile population (or maybe it was the pig owner, can't remember) begging Jesus and his followers to leave town after he did that.
I remember reading that the Roman legion assigned to keep order in Palistine in the early first cent. consisted of 2000 troops and that their standard was a pig. note: Don't remember where I read this so it could be bullshit. Just thought it was interesting.
