Well, I got in an argument with one of my straight-edge friends the other night about cannabis. She's pretty adamant in thinking that it's bad and such. She claims that she hates it for what it's "done to [her] family", insinuating that marijuana somehow caused them many hardships. She tried convincing me that a lot of her family was horribly addicted to it. I told her otherwise, and cited many sources, and the only thing she could say was, "No, because they were forced into a chemicaly dependency center." This is where my bullshit alarm really started sounding. Chemical dependency centers usually don't classify marijauan addiction as a chemical dependency, and there is only help offered to people addicted to it through voluntary programs. And even in that case, there aren't many places around here that will even treat marijauana addiction. I have a friend who was trying to quit one time and just coudln't so he wanted to go to one of those, but they woudln't allow him to. It just pisses me off how people will refuse to even consider that their ideas about something are wrong. Even if it did do stuff to her family, that doesn't mean that it does that to anyone who uses it. She seems to think so, though. It's just very annoying, but it pisses me off to no length and I'm pretty much determined to try to let the truth be known to her. It will be increidbly hard, though, because she never considers a single thing anyone else has to say. I once tried telling her about how Courtney more than likely was the cause of Kurt dying, but she just totally ignored all the evidence and stuff I showed her about that. Anyway, anyone know people like that?
Indeed I do; my mom. She threatened to put me into rehab; which she couldn't unless it was court ordered.
My girlfriend was like this. We used to get stoned all the time, then all of the sudden she quit and when she refered to me smoking herb, she'd call it "my drug habit", "or you and your drugs" or something like that. She'd say it in a tone as if I was a crack-head. It fuckin pissed me off so much. She couldn't tell me one reason for it to be illegal and for alcohol to be legal, but she was still all on my ass for not quiting. I would ask her about it and she would always ignore the situation saying that it pissed her off and she didn't want to talk about it. I hate when girls do that to you. You try to explain things to them and once you proved a decent point, they say "forget it i don't want to argue" or some shit like that... argh!
People that don't smoke pot can only tell you are a bad person for doing it. They just throw all drugs into the same "evil", It's worse when you are raised in a society that truly believe these are the tools of satan.
oh how very very sadly true in most cases. but none the less i always find myself as determined as this person clearly is, to change the numbsculled ideas of narrow minded vermin such as the people he seems to be describing, the blatant lie about such a persons family tells you a little about someones maturity level. anyone who feels they must resort on some mythological false info to make a point is a loser anyway. Also, marijuana is NOT CHEMICALLY ADDICTIVE, there is no if's and's or but's about it, any addiction some idiot may think they have are purely of the kind that you allow your own mind to develop, thats why potheads don't go through withdrawl like crackheads (duh!0 i feel your frustration and i am sure we all know too well what this can do to a person) clearly this person has had little or no interaction with the drug at all and had absolutely no knowledge of it's effects or culture, clearly this person is a victim in the sense that she was bred to spew these anti-drug slogans much in the same fashion as christian are bred by the church through forced baptisms ( something that has always enraged me.) most likely this person never had a choice about what she heard about drugs much in the same way a christian was baptised when they were far too young to be able to make any choices.
What the different between what they're saying and what your saying? Your pro-pot, their anti-marijuana, none of you are in the middle range. Both group holds strong bias. You deny the negatives, they deny the positives. Some of you idolize it. Hows that not an addiction? It's no different than if you have an addiction to video games, or food, shopping, or a hobby. Too much of anything isn't good. If your not addicted how some get real agitated and bitchy until their next smoke? It's still an addiction no matter how to twist and turn it. Not to say everyone is addicted. Some people have good control. However some people do not, and those people shouldn't be smoking. I am one of those. Even tho I have a good job, while going to college, and toking like mad everyday, it simply wasn't healthy and it took a toll on me. I am not dimishing on the positive effects weed gives you, but many of you are in denial of the negatives. I hope some of you are open minded enough to see it.
When most people talk about addiction in the way where a person has to get help for it, i.e. they can't do it on their own, they're talking about chemical dependencies. Their body can't work without the chemical anymore, so they literally need it to survive. @reapermadness The funny thing is her mom smokes it constantly and is always telling her about how it's good and not bad. She's never mentioned anything to me about her other family until that day, either. And she's smoked it only once before when she was 11.
hmm First of all remember that close-minded people who haven't, don't care to and don't know how to expand their minds can't see beyond their universe. Beating them up will only prove their point of view to them. Maybe if you show them the positives in a more authentic way-- a laidback, happy, healthy, kind, relaxed nature might make them take a second look. otherwise just don't waste your time unless theirs any hope of convincing them. and twoseeeyes I think you have a good point.
oh an i was baptised but any smart person would realise that they dont have to follow christianity jsut caus they were baptised.. lol. christians *laughs*
