Seems like I've been hearing alot of good things about these islands on the southern coast of Vancouver Island...

Apparently there is much community living to be had, and I've had a few leads to talk to someone named Bubba.... But I'm a bit wary to go out west again with so little information...

Ive even heard of a community that lives in treehouses, like an Ewok village!

    Thoughts?

wll I know in salt spring you can stay in treehouses at the local travelerrs hostel... in down town ganges there are many many many good folk , co-ops and such everywhere, I looked for a commune out there a few years ago and I didnt have much luck, though that doesnt mean there is not one....

id go there just to go there, its an absoluetlytamazing olace, I have never seen such an incredible sight then from the top of mount baxter over looking the cove with the islands strewn over the sea as if dropped from a giants pocket, the mist fills the valley and you think your in the presence of god......wow man...so yeah go check it out for sure, as for pender island, Ive ment to go there several times though never made it out yet, I have heard good things though, I know west victoria island as a few communities out there....if you go to saltspring another brother you should talk to is rasta dan, he know all the in and outs of the good folk around there.......peace

Most excellent...many thanks for the prompt reply and the inviting atmosphere that you have described on Salt Spring. I have also heard that they have their own currency?

I found the link to the treehouse hostel, it looks neat but very expensive!

I've been around Nelson, and there are lots of communes there...but I'd rather not be on the mainland. I have a desire to be connected whilst disconnected, if you get my drift :)

Anyhoo, how about other places on Vancouver island? Nearer Tofino? I've been thinking about learning to build hand drums, and have also heard of people building them on the northern tip of the island.

    more thoughts? :p

yeah man out toward tofino there is a really cool town called port abernie....now it is a redneckish place though there are plenty of mushrooms to pick but the chentellies ..mmmmm goood tasting mushrooms, if you get a guide you can make some coin, the highway to tofino is pretty windy and dangerous, take your rides carefyully not a road you want some partied out cowboy

yeah tofino had a bus community a few years ogo though not sure if there is one still

I made it out to nitnat a few years ago for a rainbow elders camp, yeah dont drink the water we all got jaundice...

and its rain forest west island so be aware if you hit it up in the fall you will be perpetually wet

along the western coast of the island there are many old abandon fishing communities like a ghost town on the water, you have to get there by boat and good luck finding one to rent .....
but you can get a decent ocean boat for about 1000 bucks, you wont be able to live in it but you could sleep in it for a few days...you will be cramped. problem is youll need to bring enough fuel for a ret5urn trip and those boats arnt really desined for long journeys, Im just saying they would work, but I suggest knowing a bit about the water before trying to fight the ocean...its a lot like hell without fire sometimes man.....

I know of some communities out there which are seasonal, the bad winter weather is unlivable , if you know how to fish, tyrap crab, spear youll be fine for food but keeping dry is hard...

yeah my friend went up north island nad was making drums up there so I kow that it is pretty popular...dont kno9w much about northern island, except when it says last chance for gasa cafe......they are not lying.

    goodluck
    peace
