Yesterday my 6 yr old grandson was checking every box & can to see how much protein was in the food items. He would yell out and tell us which one was healthy for us just by the grams of protein in it.
I've tried to search online to find out how much protein that a 6 yr old would need every day, but can't seem to find an answer....does anyone here know?

this may prove helpful (after a little math)
according to one of my books on vegetarian nutrition:
everyone needs "0.8 grams of protein per day for every kilogram of ideal (lean) body weight - 56grams of protein per day for a 77kilogram (170pound) man & 46 grams for a 58kilogram (128 pound) woman."
i know this isn't specific to kids, but if you use the child's weight, it may help you get a general idea.
    anyway...hope this helps some

If you eat a decent variety of whole foods, protein is not really something to be concerned about or watch.

yeah don't get into math and reading different sources... you will get a headache.
just make sure there's some kind of dairy product at every meal or in the fridge for a snack (milk is important, i know people who didn't get enough milk in their youth, now their bones break like glass and take very long to heal). there are plenty of good recipes with eggs (like pancakes), which is very good and make sure he can eat as much meat and fish (esp. fish) he feels like eating, as long as it's not drenched in grease.

Wonderful sources of protein there. Eggs are cholesterol bombs... Milk actually has so much protein it leeches calcium from the bones to process it, and is very counterproductive. Likewise with meat, and fish is a broad topic. Too broad and tricky for it to be worth sorting through and eating, if your a simple person who cares about sustainability and your health. All fiber-less carb-less unhealthy food for the most part. Not to mention the FAT doses of pesitcides and herbicides in most of those foods, and trace amounts of anti-biotics and growth hormones.

Try whole grains, quinoa, rice, beans, and soy products if you want your kid to be healthy, or if your worried about him getting good protein.

here are some good protein sources

    Eggs(in moderation)/egg whites.
    lean meat(and still infrequently)
    poultry(chicken/turkey..duck etc are fattier)
    fish
    rice(BROWN!)
whole grains(oatmeal, whole wheat bread etc)
    milk/cheese(low fat/fat free)

how much protein does a person need? God knows honestly. ADA says your average american needs like 40-60 grams a day. Athletes swear by like 2 grams per pound of body mass. Some doctors say that is way too much. Sports nutritionists say otherwise. Kids are growing and need higher amounts of protein. However, it is very easy to get high enough protein by eating whole grains, dairy products(low fat is probably best), and lean meats(if you eat meat).

This is vegan bullshit. Besides, animal products aren't supposed to be full of fibers or carbs. Just full of biologically valuable proteins.
Sport nutritionists (like other nutritionists) don't swear by animal proteins for no reason. Eggs proteins were not made a reference for muscular performance, buildup and maintenance for no reason. There's a clear correlation between lack of milk (if there isn't any other rich source of calcium) and brittle bones.
We're not talking about little vegan theories to save the Earth. But people who need strength to be construction workers, athletes, etc.

I think what people should be worried about is their kids mental health being fucked up by vegan's drivel.

I, myself, have to admit that all the whole rice, bread, oat, etc I eat is far from being nescessary for my actual lifestyle : to my amazement, i witnessed some dude fuelled by chocolate/cereal bars, candy and corned beef and cheap canned preparations (full of grease of course) for two months when he was homeless. And was still strong enough to fight for his life in this harsh world, find food, survive cold, somedays walk dozens of miles and stay in a good enough mood to be sociable and party once in a while, even with the damage of booze.

(hum we're going away from the main topic, i hope you don't mind)

Carbs and fiber might not make up animal products, but they should make up what goes into the human body.

And I'm sure a hippy parent wants her child to grow up to be a construction worker or athlete. It's probably worth mentioning though, that many athletes and even some body-builders are vegetarians. Their arguably smarter, more light and creative too, Paul McCartney, Bill Maher, me, etc...
