i'm soon to be starting small business training. are there women here who run a small business? what kind of resources are available for women (specifically, single women with kids) who are starting a small business?

Why should we single out women here?

Gosh, I'd like free money and assistance to start my own business. But apparently cause of my plumbing I am ineligible.

calm irongoth, she just asked for some advice, wanted to know if other folks around here ran their own businesses. goodness, she wasn't saying she deserved a shitload of money because she was female.

and no, I don't have my own business, I'm a retail whore. er, salesperson

Yeah your right iron goth men are treated poorly in this women dominated society especially singal working mothers. Those singal working mothers need to be brought down. Men every where need to stand up and say I AM MAN HEAR ME ROAR!
The singal working mother may yell sit down jockstrap burner, but don't back down come forth men and charge!!!!

The programs don't say for single mothers, just for women.

iron goth, in answer to your first question, because it's the women's forum, duh.

as for programs for single mothers, i found one program for mothers through the SBDC, didn't get time to research it thoroghly because it's for home-based businesses, and my goal is a cafe bookstore.

i don't want to start a debate, i just want some advice and networking. jeez.

well this was a useless post. there are actually tons of resources available for women in business, because women entrepeneurs are in the minority. that much i learned from my career counsellor and the small business development center - i'm just trying to research those resources & find out what they are, and more importantly, if anyone here has any direct experience. but apparently everyone here is more interested in petty squabbling than actually discussing women's issues, so i'll take my networking elsewhere.
