Here's my lil ode to the holidays:)

    Desperate Christmas
    By L. Karoway

My Joy flickers like the little lights

    Above the narrow streets

The snow melts on the black pavement

Beneath stiletto heels and leather boots

Oh Holy Night sung from glossy lips

    Of fake blondes barely dressed

    Christ’s birth politicized by

    The world’s corporate leaders

Yet we stand alone and the world

    Passes by, flinging their disappointments

    Around in paper bags

And I know you love the cold

    Air

The warmth you find in the

    Faintest smile

    Each individual from this moment

Beyond the past and till the last

    Second of time

    Together with one aim

    One moment that we all

Know one thing is the same

    Beyond religion, beyond politics

A life was created on one day

    When eyes opened so alone

    And forgotten

The world was beautiful and pure

For a sheer spec of time

    And we were blessed

    This girl was blessed despite

    Her wicked ways

    She was saved and forgiven

    Before she even knew the

    pain she’d create

    She was given a choice

    There was hope and there

    Still is

Each year we forget a bit more

Of what we need to believe

We dress it up in silver and bright red metallic

    But the meaning hasn’t changed

The hope and light that was given to us

    Is still there

    For us to believe and

    To be at peace
