My sister is pregnant and she insists that smoking once in a while will not harm the baby. does anyone know if this is true?

I don't think that a very super occasional hit will hurt the baby. I actually smoked a handful of times when I was pregnant, and Noah turned out fine.

I think I actually remember reading a medical study from Jamaica that women who smoked very a limited amount during early pregnancy and then stopped had children who were more well developed and faster learners after birth. If I can find the link, I'll put it up.

Babies experience pretty much the same effects of whatever the mother puts into her body as she does, I think. That's why you have to be really careful about what you put into your body when you're preggers.

Why risk it? If youre pregnant you cant have caffine or cigarettes, so why would weed be an exception? Would you blow a bong rip in a 2 year old childs face? It's pretty much the same thing in my opinion.

Thats pretty sad that anyone on the hip forums would even consider smoking anything while pregnant. Shit, just don't do it. It's nine months, not that long. And yeah, it's bad. When you fill smoke in your lungs, your filling smoke in his/her lungs. Your baby's lungs are very delicate, not made to handle smoke and harsh fumes.
Also, That occasional once a month smoke will start turning into twice a month and three times a month, and finally, your smoking every other day. Just don't mess around with it.

Occasional usage is best if not complete abstinance. It's been shown that marijuana doesn't cause birth defects; but they still get the THC.

Erm, the baby doesn't inhale it dude; it gets to him/her through the umbilical cord...

hahah yer i was about to say...

it seems that new studies are showing that small amounts of marijuana are healthy.. like the one i read about earlier here in hip F, that a small amount is good for your driving. i reson tehres got to be heaps of things theyre gonna find thats good about small dosages.

When evaluating the posts that "a little bit is OK", remember the post that claimed that "what enters your lungs enters the baby's lungs."

Ahahaha that was hilarious! Ya...the smoke won't touch the babies lungs which may not even have formed yet. What people are probably and most rightly afraid of is some effect on the child's developing brain. Maybe the child will see the world in a different way since THC was present while the brain was ordering itself ready for life.

i smoked before i knew i was pregnant. i was probably only 2-3 weeks prego at most. as soon as i found out i was prego i stopped. it stunk to not smoke, but i didn't want to deal with any guilt IF something was wrong. luckily he(18months) is doing great! i don't think smoking pot would do anything, but if something did go wrong i would never forgive myself and always question whether or not the smoking had something to do with it. just my opinion.

realistically, it probably wont cause any serious damage. i've known women who drink and smoke when they know their pregnant. but i wouldnt risk it.

occasional use will do no harm...it will just relax the baby.

you should put on some tunes for the little guy next time you smoke :D

I know this doesn't really make it 'ok' it but my cousin is about 7-8 months along now and has been smoking like a chimney (pot and tobacco) the whole time, and seems convinced that it won't hurt the baby but I guess we'll see soon enough... I wouldn't do anything if I could become pregnant but I'm a guy so that's pretty tough to do :p I have heard stories of crack addicts having kids that turn out 'normal' but I have never met one personally so I'm not really sure about that... if you could live with yourself after screwing up a life then do whatever you want, even if you smoke pot I doubt it would do anything but I wouldn't want to gamble with a kid's life and health to find out...
oh yea and the thc would probably go through the bloodstream like someone else said so the lungs of the baby should be ok... maybe they will be born more enlightened than a 'sober' baby?

Peace-hope youre using condoms...and birth control....and generally staying away from the opposite sex altogether. I feel pity for any child you may give birth to or spend time around.

Moving on-try asking a doctor about smoking ANYTHING while pregnant. Cigarettes have been proven to lower birth weight and cause developmental defects-research before you post. Many things are restricted while women are expecting, like most every OTC drug ecept tylenol- like I said before-WHY RISK IT. This isn't as minor as passing a drug test-its a HUMAN LIFE. Have some respect for the baby....it cant help that it's parents have zero common sense.

Please don't smoke, it can do nothing but harm the baby, which is something that this baby doesn't have any control over. You shouldn't allow the possibility of anything happening because his/her life is not worth your desire to smoke weed. Please stop being selfish, it's 9 months.
