people say that you only use 10% of your brain or something like that but do you think that certain drugs could make you use more of your brain?

I'm sure of it. How else would you account for the perceptual changes?

That's a false stat... They kind of mind it up, but I don't know why people did make it up.. I read it on Skeptic Dictionary or something like that...

how can we even tell what parts of our brain is being user or not. i think psycedelics open doors to many pathways in your head. so you may not use "more" of your brain but really different parts of your brain. just my thoughts though.....

ya that 'we only use 10% of our brains' is bullshit...we use 100% of our brains.

That 10% theory has been brought up by L.R.Hubbard, founder of "Scientology". Imho it´s bullsh*t!

^^^actually we do use 100% of our brains...

do a google search, theres plenty of studies that prove that...

I thought the 10% theory related to the amount of our brain we use to store information, saying that not even the smartest of smart such as einstein used more than 10%?? I may be wrong

The problem is, that we indeed don´t use more than 10-20% of our brain - at least not at the same time. If more of our brain was active at the same time, we wouldn´t be able to deal with the masses of information, causing a feeling of slow-motion. Everyone with RC-experience would agree to that (because it´s the effect when you take RCs - more regions of your brain become active).

yes. the only reason it was ever stated that we only use 10% of our brains is in relation to neurons. that is, only 10% of the brain IS nuerons, which store and carry information. the other 90% consists of other "helper" cells such as glial cells and astrocytes and whatnot. these supporting cells function to keep the 10% healthy and free of debris. brain cells are constantly dying and who's gonna clean up the mess? not the neurons. other cells wrap neurons in myelin, which speeds up action potentials. so basically, 10% of our brains are for "smarts" and 90% are to preserve/assist.

EEGs and SPECTometry are just two methods of "seeing" the activation of brain regions. different areas light up (activate) under different states of consciousness or illness. there are different degrees of activation as well. with most psychedelics, it's not necessarily the case that whole new brain areas are activated but rather the usual ones are just more intensely activated.

But aren´t the "assistants" also active (in some way)?

yes, they're actively maintaining the brain's health. they do not carry knowledge or memories though. they're not the neural connections that make us "smart." of course, if they didn't do their job at all, we'd be fucked because it seems neurons are pretty helpless on their own.

OK, this 10% thing comes from the fact that if you look at electrical activity in the brain, about 10% is in use at any given time.

This is a good thing. The brain appears to try and settle into a low energy state and this appears to represent a convolution of patterns of neuronal activity across the brain, in the same way that a hologram contains a pattern of mirrored surfaces that recreate the wavefront of light coming off an object.

If you look at a chess master at work, every time someone moves a piece the neurons start firing more and more, and then settles back down to a low energy state, and the more intelligent the person, the quicker it gets there and the less of the brain it uses. Someone with the IQ of, say, George W Bush has much of his brain in use, and people with mental retardation see much more electrical activity in the brain.

"Imagine if you used 100% of your brain!" they mean imagine if all your neurons lit up at once. What would happen is you'd be too stupid to remember to breathe never mind swallow your own saliva.

What about adderol? It helps you concentrate and I'm already pretty smart as it is but man, when I take adderol I do everything I normally do only I do it ten times better and ten times faster.

I think smoking pot expands your mind. You know how sometimes you go into deep thought? i think it expands your mind to think beyond the box into a world of philosophy. When i get high sometimes i philosphise everything.
