Ive been playing guitar for about 3 and 1/2 years now. Im pretty much concentrate on blues-rock and 99% of what I do is improvisations. More importantly however is the last time I took E I picked up my guitar and simply put I played better (ie cleaner, faster, and my licks just had a magical sound to them). Therefore I came up with the idea of recording a few backing tracks of different styles such as country, blues, surf, jazz, latin, western etc. whilst sober and then in the upcoming week when im planning on rolling I could lay out some solos.

Basically my reason for posting is two fold. Firstly I would like to here of any guitar + ecstasy experiences. Secondly due to my poor theory skills in other music styles I would love if people could recommend to me some interesting chord progressions (for country, latin, jazz, surf, western) and scales / modes that would sound cool over top of said chord progressions.

i've always been interested in playing while rolling but i've never really wanted to do e (if that makes any sense). i cant wait to hear your results. heres some help for progressions, but i'd recomend just finding the chords to your favorite songs and just snag the changes from them and jammm

country/western- keep to the major degrees (ex. I, V, IV) for the A section and minor ones (ii, vi) for the B section. solo with the major scale or chord structures. try major pentatonic that would sound nice

latin- try a vi-viidim for a flamenco vamp or a iim7-V7 for a santana rock kind of feel. for soloing over the first vamp you can either use the major scale of the I chord or harmonic minor starting on the root of the vi chord. for the ii-v use dorian starting on the root of the ii chord

jazz- this could be tough because there isnt really any jazz vamps, and any real progressions would be too long to type out. i cant give you any single scale to solo with because of the many key modulations. i suggest finding a copy of the real book and picking some tunes out of there. its extremely easy to find now because its legal and cheaper than ever. get the 6th edition.

surf- the only surf song i can think of right now is "wipeout" and that sounds like a 12 bar blues

like i said good luck and tell us how it goes

Thanks for your suggestions and if you ever decide to try E I highly recommend playing guitar as its pure euphoric experience. Last night when I posted I was hung over on E and on a large benzo dose so I wasnt as articulate as I hoped but you got the idea. The main reason Im doing this is as a present to my friends to remember me by (Im moving far away). Im either going to attempt it this friday or next monday but I dont know how to host music or anything so I'm unsure if you will be able to hear it. If anyone could help in that area it would also be appreciated.
