Id say first should be either Picture of Nectar or Junta, both are great albums.

    Junta
    Lawnboy
    Rift
    Round Room

uh, avoid Hoist for a while, its okay, just not the best phish has to offer. to poppy although the last track def. saves the cd as a whole!

and of course, live stuff is always recommended, easy to find online.

What?! The last track? Scent of a Mule is the best track off that album...BY FAR.

I stand by what I said earlier.

Story Of A Ghost - Funky, Jazzy, Spacey
Hoist - More alt country, poppy, some other cool stuff.
Billy Breathes - Hard to describe. Just buy it!

hmm I would go with sample in a jar as the best track on that album.

I don't know, it's just too hard to choose. You get something good with every album, really..

Am I the only one who's not a big fan of Lawn Boy? It's probably in my bottom 3 phish albums.

[Billy Breaths]- mellow acoustic, mixed with psychedelia and fun loving, but sad Phish....crazy album....but if you are truly a fan of "JAM" get [the Sicket Disc]-Psychedelic madness, clips of huge jams that were left on the cutting room floor during the making of [Story of The Ghost]....but the most under-rated Phish album, and one of my personal favorites [Round Room]- this album is so well written but recorded so loosley that you feel like your right there with Phish, this album sounds the most like Phish, beautiful orechestrations, mixed with great jams and a few sad tunes.....a blue album, amazing shit.....but you can't go wrong with Phish, they are THE band......they'll be back, i feel it in my bones....

i would say a live one, even tho thats not the one i got first. i made the mistake of buying lawn boy first, which i didnt like until i was more into phish and long jams (now i love it).

    Billy Breathes

Junta might be a bit too intense with some of the jams for a first time listener. Whats nice about Billy Breathes is that its Phish, but filtered to fit a more mainstream structure of a CD. Its easier to listen to than the others for someone unaccustomed to Phish.

    JUNTA.

The best album ever recorded, possibly.
Junta is absolutely the best collection of Phish songs ever.
