I was passing down an old dirt path and i entered a campsite. i found a few strewn papers and belongings. i picked up one of the pink papers and the next and the next and they all said the same thing on about 20 papers. read it and tell me what it means to you: Here dead we lie because we do not choose to live and shame the land from which we sprung Life to be sure is nothing much to loose, but young men think it is and we were young. Stained is the land on which we fell, our faces toward the foe. In the dust our bodies rest, in the rain, the sleet and snow. Our souls are filled with enlightment, our duties fullfilled. As we fight an eternity not knowing we were killed. I think it is shocking, beautiful and well-written. It makes you think although im not sure what it means exactly. I guess that is the point of a poem though-to be interpreted in different ways by the reader. all im saying-i get goosebumps reading it.
way cool! was there anyone around at all? it is beautiful. I wonder if it was some kinda prank or left overs from some kind of meeting...
http://www.cs.rice.edu/~ssiyer/minstrels/poems/1227.html don't know about the last bit, but the first is by AE Housman
At least the first to stanzas. lol but i think its about someone not living up to life and giving up.
there was no one around at all. it very well could possibly have been a prank. but chilling it was...
