Anyone else into the really old acoustic Mississippi Delta blues style? Just about everyone I know who likes blues is mainly into electric. I like electric blues too but that old acoustic stuff is the shit. Any suggestions of who to listen to?
bring it on I dig some tampa red, son house, RJ, and always bessie smith - shes not acoustic guitar, but what a voice!
Right now I'm listening mainly to Robert Johnson, Sonny Boy Williamson 1, and Mississippi John Hurt. They're all amongst the most fantastic musicians I've ever heard.
I couldnt name any artist but this is by far my favorite type of blues! I love most music from the delta. It just makes me wanna chill out and listen for hours.
charlie patton and skip james are 2 more to check out. also try blind lemon jefferson and lightnin' hopkins not strictly speaking delta blues but masters of the contempory texas finger picking blues and well worth checking out
fuck yeah. I listen to a lot of bukka white, R.L. Burnside, Leadbelly, Lightnin Hopkin, Cedell Davis, Howlin Wolf, muddy waters, john lee hooker, memphis slim, yeah that music kicks ass
Try listening to Paul Jones "Rythm & Blues show" on BBC Radio 2 at 8.00pm on Thursday nights. He plays quite a lot of old stuff as well as "new" guys like Joe Bonamassa.
i suppose howlin wolf isn't that great, when it comes to old delta blues he's nothing but i'm a rock music fan aswell so i do enjoy electric.
Honeyboy Edwards... Honeyboy is still playing the Blues at 92! www.DavidHoneyboyEdwards.com You'll see a Rolling Stone jamming with Honeyboy on the home page!
I love the blues, Give a listen to a relitivly new artist on the blues scene by the name of Keb Mo'. He plays a lot of steel guitar. Going to see him open up for Bonnie Raitt in a few weeks-can't wait!!!
i just ran across some really old Leadbelly stuff. i would say that's blues... even though i got into this dispute over what to call his music. he had a pretty crazy life, but man, but i LOVE his music.. you'd probably be able to find "where did you sleep last night" and "goodnight irene" pretty easily. enjoy!
Yes, Keb is awesome, but "relatively new"? Compared to 92-year-old David "Honeyboy" Edwards, maybe, but Keb released his first album (Rainmaker) in 1980!
