It's kind of wierd and kind of cool that my parents listened and went to concerts of stuff that I listen to today..
Whenever I play a song or something my dad can name it and something cool to say about it.. my parents tell me about when they had gone to led zepellin.. and my dad went to a bunch of grateful dead.. so it's pretty cool and we can relate to the music, listen to it in the car and hear stories from them when these bands were actually in action making records and doing concerts and tours, does anyone elses parents kind of the same way? it's cool because i'll say to my dad let's go buy some CD's so we come back with a whole bunch of the dead and both listen to it.. i know some kids like to distant themselves from their parents but being close to them (and grandparents) and listening to their history and all can sometimes be very nice

my parents have shite taste in music. They don't listen to the beatles or led zeppelin or any band from the 60's/70's, which makes no sense, because they would have been my age during all the best music periods.

My dad is a big fan (wait a huge fan) of Genesis .. He used to have some quite good taste in music , but now almost all the music he listens to is cool jazz playing on cbc/radio-canada . It's kinda funny since, he thinks that the music his fifth grade students listens to sounds good (and it's crap like Simple Plan and some weird rap) .. At least, we both like Harmonium ..

My mother likes french variety songs like Gilbert Bécaud,Jacques Brel, Charles Trenet etc But what's great with is that she doesn't mind what i listen to ..

My parents like a ton of cool music. It's sort of funny because they were always playing the Beatles and Neil Young and Tom Petty when I was a little kid and I loved it all... but then I decided that I needed to get into more modern music in an attempt to be cool, so I started listening to all this bullshit modern Alternative rock. Hoiwever, it only took me a few years to realize how much most of it sucked, and I started getting into Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd and Phish, which are bands that my parents sort of like but neither are huge fans. Eventually, this drew me back into Neil Young and the Grateful Dead as well- now I love most of the music my parents like.

My parents have a moronic taste in music... all they listen to is classic rock, psychedelic music, folk, jam bands and similar shit. People like that should be persecuted and put to death with the verdict decided before the case in court.

No, actually they do like stuff like Deep Purple, Cream, Nazareth, Rolling Stones, Garcia, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young etcetera, but in contrast to all you guys I've taken a very different direction in my musical development.
Some stuff they listen to is okay, and similarly my dad likes some of the heavy / power metal I introduced him to (Blind Guardian mainly, and from there on he did some discoveries on his own), but otherwise we remain very separate. They rarely ever say stuff like 'oMg b4Rt ur mUs1kk = t3h sUx0rz' but they're not too fond of it, nor the imagery and symbolism (especially my mom).

    MCR is corporate shite.

My dad called said Bright Eyes depresses him, and my mom said that Conor sounded incredibly whiney and asked me how I could listen to that "crap".

well, he does make crap that is utterly depressing due to its crappiness.. apart from Letting Off the Happiness (which almost nobody has heard), he hasn't released a good album.

My step-son has great taste in music. I hope he gets that from us. We've been exposing him to live music since he was too young to remember.
