What are some good cheese replacements? Not in terms of nutrition necessarily, but taste and texture, and $$$. I want to be able to make grilled "cheese", "cheese" pizza, etc. that dont taste rubbery or cost a lot.
I've been vegetarian pretty much my whole life and have been vegan off and on for a while (because for some reason I really like the taste of cheese) I havent found anything to have the taste I'm looking for, and I'm trying hard to give it up for good. Also, is there anything vegan with similar tastes to soft cheeses? Feta, etc.
Just curious what has worked for you..
    Thanks :)

The only thing I eat on a regular basis that is sort of "cheesy" is nutritional yeast (kal brand). I have use it to make a cheese spread for vegan pizzas, which always a crowed favorite. Other than that, people have told me that they like the Follow Your Heart brand for pizza because it melts. People also like the Tofutti singles for sandwiches. My brother has told me that the "new" veganrella is supposed to be really good.

tofutti slices are good and most health food stores have them. theres another kind @ the health food store, i forget what its called but its like sliceable cheddar and its pretty good. they might be able to order them if they dont have them. baking hummus on pita bread sorda reminds me of pizza. theres also soy slices @ most grocery stores but those have casein in them, which is cow stomach lining if i remember right. someone once told me sesame tahini tastes like cheese, and it resembles it very vaguely probably not in a way your looking for. probly wouldnt make a good grilled cheese either...

no fake cheese is REALLY like cheese, like the way soymilk is like milk. you get used to it though, after a month or 2 of cheeselessness, eating real cheese again just doesnt taste or feel right..in my experience anyway.

    Goat cheese is still cheese.

The original poster is looking for a cheese alternative.

Cheese is not a cheese alternative. :p

nutritional yeast is good! Mix nutritional yeast with noodles and some oil, and its kinda like mac n cheese. I can't describe the taste of nutritional yeast, it has a very unique flavor. But it's really quite good.

Thanks guys. i'll have to try some of those.
And I know, technically i dont need something to replace it. But no matter how much it smells like feet, I love the taste of it. Soy cheeses don't taste right. But in the end, I guess I love animals more than the taste of cheese...

Actually, he's quite right. I'm not looking for another type of cheese, but rather a cheese "replacement." Something vegan.

Yeah dude, that post wasn't directed at YOU, it was directed at your post.

I'm just pointing out the obvious. I have no doubt your goats make good cheese, but promoting cheese on a thread about finding alternatives to cheese really is a pretty cheesy tactic.
