A week ago, I toked up with two of my friends, in the basement. Down there, there is a single smoke detector mounted on the wall, which we noticed right after we finish smoking. Paranoia set in, and we ran over to the wall to try and turn it off before the smoke reached that side of the room. Ever seen one of the action movies where the heroes has to defuse a bomb before the timer goes off? That is how we felt as the carefully opened the back. We eventually managed to shut it off, but not before one of us yanked the wrong wire and caused it to beep really fast and really load (before we ripped the whole thing out and threw it at the opposite wall), which scared the shit out of us. Anyway, did we really need to unplug it? How accurite are these things anyway? How much smoke is needed before they start screaming at you?
haha i got a smoke detector in my room, and one time i was smoking and i realized it had creeped up on me on the ceiling and it started beeping really loudly. then i realized it was a dream. i dont think theyre very sensitive, i really do have on in my room...but i keep the smoke to a minimum, and they do go off if my mom burns something in the oven. so, to answer your question, i have no clue =D sorry!
Lol well I can imagine the bomb defusal movie with a smoke detector. funny as hell, but scary at the same time
they wont go off from weed or cigs, ive had my house clouded with both and nothing happend, then every time i cook something in the oven with the smalled littile hint of the smell of smoke it goes off.
well this is pointless cause we could have cheap ones and u could have a really good one, or vica versa
^^^exactly...maybe try covering your smoke detecter with saran wrap when you toke? that might work...
They shouldnt go off from weed or cigs. They cnat design a smoke detector just for a non-smoker for the sake of business.
Most smoke detectors work by sensing the heat and the speed of the air, not the presence of smoke per se.
Ive had the smoke detector go off from smoke on 2 different occasions, once at a party where it was really smoky and another at a hotel room that we were smokin down in, it was the middle of the night and we couldnt turn it off so we ripped it out of the wall and smashed it on the ground.
This reminds me of that episode of That 70's Show where Red installs a smoke detector in the basement after he finds out that everyone gets stoned. HAHAHA
I would expect that the monitors only look for really thick smoke. I don't think even blowing smoke onto a smoke detector would make it go off. You'd have to hot box for it to go off. However, I am going to make this into an experiment, and see how much marijuana smoke it takes to make an alarm go off, if any.
you tried to shut off the smoke detector because there was a lot of pot smoke in the basement and you didnt want to get caught.....sorry, this doesnt make sense to me. you'd have much more to worry about with the SMELL of that much smoke than with a smoke detector. i think most of them need a certain level of heat or certain types of smoke to go off. i've smoked blunts, joints, bowls, bongs, cigarettes, cigars, etc. in my apartment (w/ smoke detectors present) all in the same day and never had the alarm go off once. in fact, i've NEVER EVER heard of a smoke detector in someone's house going off because they were smoking something. yet oddly enough i've seen them go off a hundred times from accidentally burning food on the stove...
I've had one go off before when I was toking but I don't really know what the fuck it was about because I was like 20 feet away on the other side of a door and there wasn't much smoke.
i have one in my room and my friends and i bake it at least once a week. i remember a friend had a cig and was standing under the smoke detector asking if it worked. i just moved into a new house so im assuming the detectors are decent too so im just guessing that it can tell what types of smoke it has to be worried about or something. and i remember once another of my friends smoke detector in his bathroom went off because he was taking a really long hot shower that steamed up the room so maybe it needs to detect heat and smoke to go off or something
