Another teacher molests student, gets off

It's illegal to smoke pot. Sodomy is illegal in some States. Gay marriage is illegal in most States. Spitting is illegal in Singapore.

Just because society has made some rules doesn't mean that those rules are correct, ethical, or even moral. Us hippies should all be in defense of this teacher and student whose relationship was sabotaged by outside forces. We learn about Romeo and Juliet in school, about star-crossed lovers and this was definitely that sort of case.

goddam I wish I had the opportunity to have sex with some of my teachers in school... my grades would have been better, that's for sho.

 

OK, so here's the aspect people are not bothering to discuss:
SHE GOT THE PLEA BECAUSE THE BOY DID NOT WANT TO TESTIFY!

How many rapists get ridiculous pleas, or even have the charges dropped, because the victim was unwilling or emotionally unable to appear in court, especially if it is a case that will get national headlines and possibly be long and drawn out? Except that, when it is a male getting off that way, it doesn't make a big splash, because it happens way too fucking often. Yes, even male child molesters, when the only hard evidence is the child's testimony, will get off if the child cannot deal with testifying or if the child's parents ask the DA to try to avoid putting the child through that.

Yeah, there are plenty of comments made by assinine people about her being too pretty for jail or whatever, but the fact that she got a ridiculous plea bargain is not as gender biased as it appears from a superficial reading.

 

Why should we rush to the defense of an adult who had sex with a child? The adult was an authority figure, a TEACHER. There are power issues there that perhaps you're failed to recognise. Would I be thrilled if I found out my teenager was fucking their teacher? Definitely not. These rules are in place to keep children from being maniuplated by adults they perhaps don't feel they can say no too. If two grown adults want to have wild monkey sex and the gov't says they can't, I'd say that's bullshit because they're adults. But like it or not, there are some things children need to be protected from - and being used by adults in a position of power is one of them.

That's exactly the type of power issue I'm talking about... but obviously we see this situation differently... I respect your opinion, and heartily disagree with it.

I dont see how anyone could 'side' with her. if the boy was 16 or 17 then it would be different and I would be a little less disturbed by this but he was way too young to really grasp what he was getting into, and as the adult she should have recognized that she was doing something that could do alot of damage to the boy
