Maybe I just have a bad memory(due to being in the 60s) but I don't remember tie dye in 67, 68. Did it come later (69, 70)? Please somebody from that era refresh my memory. thanks!

    the popularity surged in 69-72.
I have a reference from the Arts and Crafts design era (early 20 th C) in Truman Capote's A Christmas Memory & tie dye has been around since long before the common era.
But the loud, flashy dyes were more 70s, although some singel color resists were around earlier

I remember tie-dyed t-shirts in 1966 in Greenwich Village (and spin-art; don't ask). They were selling it to the tourists.

Glad you mentioned "A Christmas Memory" by Truman Capote. It's sad to see someone who could write that and "Breakfast At Tiffany's" descend into the physical and mental waste he became. Some would say he wasted his talent, but perhaps his early work was all he really had to say. But, how beautiful it was!

Yeah Drummin, I remember them around 1969, my friend had a stand in the village and used to sell them to the tourists. My daughter is so happy they are back in style now. We are going to make some tie dyed sheets for her bed. Should be fun. LOL

    Love and peace

First remember tie dying around 68-69 in high school. Taught my son how in the early 90s.
Yes, it's great to see that the art is still thriving!

Tie-Dye is back in style now? Really? Someone asked me about my shirt I was wearing the other day, and I was like "It's back in style in my little world of my brain...I don't care what everyone else is doing." :p

Oh I remember spin-art! It was a big hit at all the arts and music festivals when I was a kid. I still prefer the muted tie-dye. I like to do them with natural dyes like tea and juices. All my grandbabies have natural, handmade tye-dyed onies!
