How safe are condoms for protection against pregnacy if you use them everytime. my girl and i use them everytime and so far we havent had any problems. it's just i get worried about it because im afraid the sperm might come through the latex.. also ive never had one break so far and i always pull out after orgasm.. and i use the spermacide ones that have a spermicde lubricent in them. so at times i feel pretty safe but i just want to hear from someone else who has tried this method for a number of years...

Many years ago, my girlfriend and I used condoms as our birth control method. 18 months later, no baby, no disease, but she graduated ....... In any case, they worked for us.

Talk about being overly cautious. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Whatever you have to do to have peace of mind. But a condom's efficacy is around 97%. Meaning that in a year of following the directions perfectly, 3 women out of 100 will become pregnant due to a faulty condom. Here's a link for a more thourough explanation. BTW, you should have no worries about cumming inside your girlfriend. Especially if you're using spermicide. If you have to use a condom, at least stay in and enjoy it. :)

Nothing is 100%, meaning condoms or even the pill. They are still your best chance of not getting pregnant or an STD. Like the other person said, condoms are around 97% but that's pretty good considering other percentages out there.

    Fishbone,
As has been noted, condoms are the only birth control device that also protects from STDs.

Also regarding, "stay in and enjoy it". Proper condom use requires that the male withdraw AFTER ejaculation but BEFORE the cock gets softer and smaller. This is to prevent the condom slipping off during withdrawal and semen spilling into the vagina. The 97% that you mention is based on proper condom use (i.e. withdrawl before detuminessance.)

so basically what that article is stating is that with proper condom use the chances of becoming pregnant is 3 out of 100 per diffrent person...with a year ..
because weve had sex almost 100 times but im trying to figure out if that percent is out of every 100 people that have sex or every 100th time you've had sex.

100 couples use condoms as their birth control method.
They have intercourse whenever they feel like it.
After a year 3 of the women are pregnant.

Does this help explain the 97%.

I wonder what the numbers would be if they used no birth contol?

im not sure thats fully acurate of a description of the effectiveness of condoms...
i don't believe 3 percent get pregnant after a year, i believe that merely 3 percent of the time semen is able to escape into the womans vagina, which doesnt neccesarily equate into a pregnancy.

-according to alice, im wrong, but im still not sure on that.

I would use a second form of bc along with it just in case ...but then I conceived my first kid while using a condom..lol...so I may be a bit paranoid about their effectiveness.

Yeah, that's what I meant. He was saying that he was pulling out before ejaculation. I was saying if you're going to use a condom at least stay in long enough to cum, but then immediately pull out before you lose the erection. Thanks for the clarification. :)
