Ive heard alot of people saying that Meg White wasnt a good drummer, but Ive never heard any "bad" drumming out of her.
Well she plays what she plays, and it sounds alright. But just about every white stripes song has the same drum part: Bass drum/ride cymbal during verse, then bass-crash/snare-crash/bass-crash/snare-crash/bass-crash/snare-crash for the chorus...
who cares how bad or good she is... her drumming fits and makes the music and thats all that matters. i think she rocks. .
How good do you have to be? It's rock music, not reggae or jazz or a genre of music where the drummer is anything more than the beat keeper. In rock, if you can keep the beat and not fuck up, you're golden. Drums, bass- no one pays that much attention to either of those instruments in rock music unless A- They themselves play those instruments or B- They're doing a solo. And drum solos are stupid and should be done as little as possible. Sorry to piss on anyone's parade, but most people listen to rock music because they like the lead singer or the guitarist- who is usually the same person. I'm not denying the significance of the rest of the band, I'm just saying that it's more important to have a very talented guitarist or singer than anything else. Now, if we note the fact that the lead singer of the White Stripes doesn't have a very good voice, and always sounds like he's straining himself... Yeah, that's what bothers me about them... But the music is still decent enough. Not great, but decent.
yeah who cares, what do you want a john bonham in every single band? prehaps an eric clapton level guitar player in every band? maybe even someone who can sing as powerfully as janis joplin in every band?? thats a bit generic if you ask me horses for courses
i dont think that she is a bad drummer....personally i think that if you can play anything at all you are darn good in my book
I don't have a problem with what she does. She fits the music. There's a shitload of other drummers out there who can't grasp the concept of playing what the music calls for. Meg's gettin' it done.
i really dig this new white stripes record, it's my favorite music out of them yet. i'm not a huge fan, but this is some alright music here. she's not a BAD drummer, her drumming is particularly bland, stale, boring to me.
Yeah, I'm not ripping on her or anyone who likes her...I'm just saying that I've only been drumming for less than 3 months and I wouldn't have to bat an eye to play the drum part for any white stripes song.
her style fits the music...she backs up jack very well. And since most of her songs are so simple, she can change songs and accompany jack very easily
I've seen some pics of her where she looks pretty hot...and others where it's not so much. She does have a nice rack though
