(The following is not a new concept. It did not originate with me. Although I didn't seem to hear anyone else saying it should be instituted as a Constitutional Ammendment.) But WOULD you support a Constitutional Ammendment that really protects marriage? Then contact your congressmen and tell them to pass a resolution for a Constitutional Ammendment banning divorce.
Protects it from what? People wanting to get married? Anyone who is against gay marriage should become a divorce lawyer, because the demand for them is going to double as soon as it become legal everywhere. You'll all be millionaires. Don't fight it, exploit it!
I hope you're being sarcastic in an attept to prove that gay marrige isn't as much a threat to the sanctity of marrige as divorce is, or something like that, because banning divorce would be incredibly stupid. setting aside the fact that the government has absolutley no right to tell people what they can or can't do with thier marriges, banning divorce would trap so many people in loveless realationships, with no way to get out. There are many people out there who don't believe in living with someone untill they're married, but once they do live together, they realize they're totaly incompatable. And what about the women and men who get trapped in abusive marriges? Would you have them stay untill they get killed or kill themselves? If divorce was banned, and those people just left thier spouses, what if they found someone else? They could never get married again. I don't think divorce is a good thing, and I think it's absolutley necessary to make perfectly sure you want to be with the person you're about to marry for the rest of your life, but things change, people change, and while divorce isn't a good option, it should still be an option, and no one, not the government or your family or anyone else has the right to tell you that you can't get one if that's what it comes down to. If divorce is outlawed, what's next, no pre-marital sex? Outlawing living together without being married? People fought hard to get us to where we are today, to get us the rights we have. What you do with your life should be based on your morals, and no one has the right to impose thier morals on everyone else through silly laws.
WTF? Are you serious? What a horrible idea. That is just what I need, for the government to tell me I have to be legally tied to a big mistake.
Actually cohabitation IS illegal in numerous states...so is sodomy.(any sex act that is considered deviant[non-procreative]...including oral sex). Big brother is everywhere...check your butt crack.
I know that this post is sarcastic, but what is going on right now, really bothers me. Teepi is correct in what she stated as far as living together and sodomy being illegal in most places, and Big Brother too. The difference in something simply being illegal in a state and amending the constitution, is the constitution isn't just this silly law put into place like you can't slurp your soup on Tuesdays. It is sacred. It is what this country was founded on. This is something that I just do not get about the current political system, mostly our idiot resident. He thinks that he can just run around and change the constitution as if it means nothing, and as if he knows better than everyone before him. You know what I think, I think since he hates the constitution so much, and wants to turn this country into his tyranny, he should get the fuck out, go make his own country. I'm sick and tired of people telling me to leave because of my views, now Bush should leave because he obviously has no respect for America, as it is and as it was intended to be. Every other day he wants to change the constitution. No other president did that. Then again, Americans have never been so stupid to allow for it either. Only in extreme circumstances should the constitution be ammended, when there is an obvious injustice, not on the whim of some president who is obviously ruling according to his religion (which is "illegal", check the constituion!) Regarding divorce, it is none of anyone's business, and least of all the governments. Just as it is none of anyone's business whom one marrys. What is next they will tell us whom we can and cannot fall in love with, or on the Big Brother note, they will soon simply make it illegal to love, and put rats on our faces if we do.
Yeah i have some problems with our present "choice" and some past one's wanting to rush in and change the most important document in this country...our founding fathers are probably continuously rolling over in their graves. No matter how much this country changes progressively the basic premiss of that document remains current, they wanted less goverment in their lives..that was the main idea of coming to the new world. You know if the outdated laws were upgraded from state to state and then all the laws enforced there wouldn't be as many problems. We don't need more laws written or amendments added we just need the basic ideals of our constitution paid attention to. Don't take away our freedoms but have respect for the one's we have, the one's this country was built on. How is "gay marriage" going to tear down this country?? Marriage is between the 2 people in the marriage, marriage is based on the commitement between those 2..not the kinds of sex they are or aren't having...its weird how such a prudish society is running around paying so much attention to and willing to start messing with the constitution because of sex. I grew up in foster homes from the age of 7...I wish a nice "gay" couple would have adopted me and put some love and security in my life.
And while you're at it, demand a Constitutional amendment banning spousal abuse. Child molestation. Ingrown toenails. Hair plugs. Anyone else got any ideas? We need to help the anti-big govenment people attain their goal. Oh how I hate politicizing personal issues.
Marriage amendment expected to die in Senate! As it should. http://edition.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/07/13/same.sex.marriage/index.html
the supreme court ruled sodomy laws un-constitutional, remember? and then pat robertson started operation supreme court "freedom", where he told people to pray for liberal activist supreme court judges to be removed from office. REEEMEMBERRR??
You have done your homework, however there are still some states that are wording their laws a bit differently so that they can keep some kind of sodomy law on the books: <H2> Virginia Eases Sodomy Ban but Keeps it on the Books The Advocate, January 15, 2004 Virginia's State Crime Commission on Tuesday endorsed loosening the state's ban on sodomy, but it refused to completely remove the law from the books despite last year's U.S. Supreme Court ruling that struck down similar sodomy laws across the country, The Washington Post reports. ___________________________________________________
Yes, I remember that from when I lived in VA. We all used to joke that the only way sex was legal was between a husband and wife inside of their home under the covers, no foreplay, but sadly it's kind of true. It's just not actively enforced. REMOVE USELESS LAWS FROM THE BOOKS! Who cares that Jon is screwing Joe behind the toolshed? (Unless you are Joe and have a sensitive ass, of course)
Sorry ...my copy and paste was screwy...I went back and edited it, in the post above with a blurb from 'The Advocate'... I will not start in on Pat Robertson as I lived in Norfolk for years and was the Advertising Director for"Our Own Community Press", newspaper for the Gay, Lesbian and Transgendered community...we had numerous run in's with Mr. Robertson....
I don't in anyway support a constitutional amendment to "protect" marriage. I think if conversatives really wanted to "protect" marriage, they'd ban strangers from marrying each other on the FOX network (or any reality show, for that matter).
VERY COOL POINT!!!! No wonder people don't respect the sanctity of marriage anymore...it has been cheapened so. Just a game....when you're tired of playing...just quit.
