does anyone here suffer with this? i do......would love to find out how other hip folks manage. thanks.xxx
Hi, I suffer from hypermobility. It sometimes gets on my nerves as the slightest wrong turn can result in one of my joints coming out of its socket, but I just take one day at a time. Do you get a lot of pain from yours? and if so what do you use to help? Ive just recently had a proper diagnosis and been refered for physio... its only take 10 years!!
I "suffer" from this too.... learn your restrictions... build good muscle tone/strength... it's really all you can do... find the painkiller that works best for you *surprised to see other peeps have this too*
I didnt even know about this till the hospital specialist told me i had it! I just thought i was bendy/flexiable. I cant wait to get the phsyio hopefully they will help me learn what not to do! By far the worst thing ive found is that my hips come out of their sockets far too easily and there are certain 'activities' I have problems with because of this. What do you do to help with pain? also what exercise do you find helps?
I do a whole range of exercises, but for the first year i followed the physio's instructions to the letter.... as you know you have to be real careful until you have enough muscle tone/strengthened tendons (you'll find the physio's advice to be a godsend, helped me loads when i was in me late teens, still use those ecercises today a coupla times a week). If worst comes the worst they can "pin" a joint.... literally putting a steel pin into the bone.... you lose a lil' mobility in this joint (i had my left ankle pinned shortly after i was first diagnosed with it)... but it obviously means that the joint won't fly apart whenever your overreach/twist that particular bodypart It's all about learning to live with it really.... learning your restrictions... it hasn't given me any "major" trouble now for over ten years.... although a coupla months with no exercise and the ol' knees and hips soon start to go. As for painkillers, i use old ol' fashioned cannabis (perscription painkillers were no good, only opiates hit the mark, and they more of a curse than a cure).... if your lifestyle doesn't allow you to let your brain fly off with the cuckoo's smoking a painkiller.... have a long chat with your doc, and make sure he's willing to spend time with you so you can both discover which perscrip pill works best (don't let him fob you off with a packet of distagesics or summit )
Cheers, im just waiting for my physio appointment to come through, cant wait really. its been a long time coming. Im using the same for a pain killer as sometimes the stuff the doc gives isnt quite enough, esp if i know my hips are going to be over used. The hospital told me about pinning joints but they want to use it as a last resort as its my hips that are the worst and with me being young they want to see if other things can help first. Hopefully the physio will work and ill be able to continue with the stuff Ive done for years but with less trouble! 0_0
