I fucking love them. They're hilarious.... so cheesy. It's neat to learn, but mostly I like them for their cheesiness

i like em, i saw the "Canada=village" one the other day, i love how stupid they are, cept i can't figure one out: "the medium is the message"--i have no clue who he is or what he is talking about

My favorite has to be the halifax explosion one or the Lester Pearson one about the flag

They're pretty funny, but I guess you do learn something from them.
I used to laugh at the burnt toast one.
    Hadn't seen them in awhile.

Once, years ago, I stumbled home pretty high on something or other. I turned the TV on, got on the couch and saw the one about the flag with Lester Person that Burbot mentioned. I didn't realize, because of the drugs, that it wasn't "the news".... I got very upset that they wanted to change the flag. Even told my friends that these people were wanting to change our flag... luckily they realized I was out of it and set me staight.

yep.. just another reason why drugs are bad. hahaha.

They are very cheesy and dramatic indeed! I'm not even going to comment on the actors ahahha... But as Mistress_Sassafras said, we always learn something neat from them and that's cool...

But anyway, the cheesiest one I remember is the one where the little kid is looking at a bear at the zoo or something and decides to name it "winnie the pooh". lol I haven't seen heritage minutes in a while... maybe cause I don't watch that much TV anymore.

actually the canadian heritage skits are a super good way of showing canadians their accomplishments .....it's exactly that ,heritage ..and as for the history professors,if they are anything like the history professors i had, thank god they are not the ones responsible for inventing stuff ....

the man is Marshall McLuhan, he also coined the term "Global Village"

by medium he ment any extention of the human form (a book is an extention of the eye, the car an extention of the the foot, electricity an extention of the central nervous system)

in making use of these mediums, and develolping them we completely change the dynamics of the society and culture they were created for. This process, these shifts in perception and our societlal roles and routines, THIS is the message. It's far more important to understand how the evening news (and the means by which it was produced) impacts our behaviours, values, politics, etc then to understand the indivdual stories reported on it. Why is this significant, well as he put it:

"Control over change would seem to consist in moving not with it but ahead of it. Anticipation gives the power to deflect and control force."
