Good luck with that, you guys. We're fighting national ID on this side of the pond, as well.

yeah, i already signed it. i really really hope the bill gets crushed in parliament, however the only way is if the House rebel against Blair again, if its is just on political opinion, then alas it will be brought in, and i think i may be leaving this country :( .

I know some many would say this was drastic action, but i honestly believe this ID card is seriously against the modern ideology of a liberal democracy.

anywho i know we will never find a perfect place, but i serious do not like the idea of ID cards, i believe it is hypocritical to a liberal democracy. i know i am a wacko civil libertarian, but hey i enjoy freedom :)

It doesnt seem drastic at all. Thats exactly what im doing. I could just about handle a fascist government, if i really had to. But a fascist posing as a down-to-earth, warm and friendly family man, calling his party "new labour", and spewing bullshit about how much he cares about students, the poor, health and education. That i cant. What a sad little place this countrys becoming. Sad, cold, bleak and uncaring. This is the last winter ill be spending here.

very true, well i have to stay here for the last 3 years, as i have just started university, but luckily i am now living in a quiet town where i can get away from too much politics (then again i am studying international relations).
i think it has got to such a level in this country that people are just accepting everything, its really sad :(
hope you find a new place to live

Well my advice to you would be to leave as soon as youre through uni. I was going to go to uni here too, but just cant stand it any longer, and now plan to study languages in Paris(even though it would have been much easier for me to go to the university of Nottingham, which is a 10 minute journey from here.) Blairs very slowly and sneakily making significant changes to the legal, health and education systems...working people harder for less, abandoning the poor, elderly and disabled, milking us of all the money he can. It wouldnt surprise me if he started to talk about the death penalty soon. The little creep.
So yeah, i think i may just get out in time. But if youre in uni for the next three years, keep your eyes open to what hes up to, dont get sucked into it all and keep signing petitions like this:)
    Best of luck to you

With Sarkozy at the helm, youll find France every bit the same sort of police state.

thanks for your kind words, i won't get sucked in, paris would be a very cool place to live, i loved france everytime i have been there. i do plan to leave the UK after i finish University. although i do like this little town, a lot different to my home city of Birmingham. but if items such as ID are brought in then they will affect me, this country has no real future. you have the right idea, escape to europe, best of luck to you

I have many friends over there, and know from them that healthcare, education, the state of the streets and public areas, are all much an improvement on britain. People just dont realise how bad britains become.
