This is my favorite Ray Bradbury book. I have to read it every summer. It just embodies summer for me. I almost know it by heart, but have to read it. A perfect tretise on childhood as well. Realistic and imaginative. I can't wait to get off line and get back to it. Can you beleive Bradbury is still writing? He's like 100.
I just love what Bradbury does with words. It's not just the stories, though the stories are great. The words flow like poetry, and paint pictures rather than cold logical blocks to be analysed. You don't have to find it believeable exactly... it matters not... the colorful image is so very real. His work also reminds me of childhood and the freshness of life, the feel of cold dew on bare feet and the smell in the air on the first day of summer vacation. You can almost hear the ice cubes clinking in the lemonaide, and hear grandma's call that breakfast is ready...
I absolutely love Bradbury, and Dandelion Wine was the first book of his I read. At first I just thought he was a mediocre author. Then I started reading more and... wow! I must say I cannot understand how anyone can like Dandelion Wine, especially after reading books like 451 Fahrenheit or his short stories.
