What is the best name brand for Laptops, or computers in general? I've got a Sony PC and it sucks horribly, so what do you reccommend? I've been thinking about a Mac, but I'm not sure... I want something that won't screw up every time I try to use it.
Dell is the most practical, and VERY reliable. they can survive anything. and I have worked with a fre diferent laptops. also, everyone I know who uses laptops agrees with me that Dell is the best way to go. tho Alienware is great, they are for folks with a **** load of cash. -Shaun
Definetly go mac. They are expensive but alot more stable than any windows PC. If you want windows go alienware then dell. The best bet for your money would be dell definetly but if you have a huge budget, alienware.
All Laptop manufacturers suck! I'm looking for a laptop myself but I just want a basic computer for browsing the Web and writing letters; nothing powerful, just simple stuff. But they don't make laptops like that anymore! Grrrrr! My only choice is to get a second hand one, but I really don't want to do that because I hate those old screens. Don't get a Mac just for stability. Windows XP is just as stable as OSX. I've been using it for years and it hasn't crashed once, whereas OSX crashes now and again on my Mac.
Haha, you bought a sony. Fun getting reamed out the ass, huh? Is the only reason your getting a lap top is because your sony sucks now(or is it a laptop too?) Laptops are always much more expensive than normal PC's, so if you don't absolutely need one, don'nt bother. On a tight budget, I'd build a pc. Well on a big budget, I'd just build one. It's a piece of cake, like a fuckin erector set. Also, the quality you get building your own machine is far better than that dell crap. You'll actually know what's in the machine. Dell's PC are a rip-off, but their lap-tops are good. They start at like 400 dollars. If your a rich yuppie, buy a mac. I would never get an alienware machine, the things are not only a rip-off, the laptops are a fucking fire hazard and they are heavy as fuck. The keys get fucking hot fast. I'm surprised they even have those things on the market.
Dizzy man, look here www.tigerdirect.com they have brand new older laptops for sale! Lot of good deals on there.
none of the current labtop companies are anything to marvel over except alienware, but as everyone else mentioned very expensive. Ones that tend to work pretty decently though are dell, and well nothing else is all that good, unless you get some special custom
Just to clear some things up... Yes... the Sony sucks ass. However, it's not my fault; my parents bought the thing. And yes, the Sony is a PC, not a laptop. Actually, I'm not the one who even wants the laptop. It's for my mother. I didn't want her to screw up and buy another lousy computer, so I thought I'd get some info on good companies. She just wants a laptop so that she can do eBay sales from the couch :&. She was already seriously looking into a Dell, so she will probably just do that. I don't think she would want to switch to a Mac anyway... probably too scared . Thanks for all of the advice, guys!
toshiba isnt bad, ibm isnt bad, and who ever brought up building thier own laptop...doesnt know what the fuck thier talking about.
I work for sony and yes they do suck i would never buy one..... and i work for them.... i can tell you any reason why not to get one for any model
HP laptops are farily reliable..IBM laptops seem pretty bloated and generally have smaller keys and screens (they also do not have the WINDOWS key if your a MS user). Building your own DESKTOP is great, building a laptop is not. I've had a HPaq laptop for a few years and its still running fairly well. The IBM laptops are a lot sturdier (thicker medal, impact resistant) but I still don't like them. Sony laptops BLOW CHUNKS. Apple Power Books are OK, if you install your own OS on them
why doesnt she just get a wireless keyboard and mouse? MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH cheaper
She may not want to have to put a desk in front of the couch so she can sit a big clunky crt monitor on it. She also wouldnt be able to take it with her where ever she would want. Why would you install your own os on a ibook? Alot of the hardware in the ibook is made specificly for the mac os. The mac os is also the most stable os out there right now that will take most software very easily, such as games, unlike linux. Linux you can get a program to be able to install most games but I heard its really bad.
That's pretty bad that you work for them and still won't buy one... I never have been impressed with ANY Sony product. Well, I'll tell her to try either a Dell or a Mac. We're both sick and tired of Windows, so maybe she'll go with a Mac if I try and talk her into it. She doesn't need a "game worthy" laptop anyway. She only needs it for the internet.
Macs are cool, but I think they are way too damn expensive. They really don't need to be so expensive. They're really good for audio work, especially for Ableton Live, which runs way better on mac than windows. For what she needs it for, which is barely nothing, I would'nt even consider a robe.
Wow. I didn't know there were so many Sony haters out there. I've had my Vaio for about six months now and I'm really happy with it. I have a freind who has one too, and he hasn't had any problems. I got a good deal considering what it's got in it. I've also heard that Toshibas last forever, for what it's worth. In my experience, you should avoid HP or Gateway.
