i've only ever had comments from roudy school boys in my home town and my old flat mates. But then again i think england is a lot more closed minded on such things than even america. But i'ved not experiancedd much of america so i wouldnt know
I believe you are correct with the exception of "paid women" and who wants to emulate a whore? A brag on Gillette's site: "88 percent of US women, 108 mil, remove hair from legs OR underarms. 92 percent use a razor." 22 percent of US women DO NOT shave at all, according to that quote.
in the 60's and 70's many of us hippie women did not shave our armpits or our legs. i loved it, and i liked the natural feel and the smell of being natural. i quit using deodorants at that time and found that i liked the womanly smell of my armpits. actually deodorant can clog your pores. a few years ago, when i had gone back to using deodorant, i had a positive mammeogram (sp) it turned out that my pores had gotten clogged from the deodorant and it appeared like cancer in the x-rays, it really scared me and i quit using deodorants again. the other thing i really loved in the 60's was we hippie women quit wearing abusive and constraining bras, panty hose and girdles. i can't believe we used to wear all that shit. i burned my bras and never went back to using them. when i had my children in the 60's the doctors actually used to tell us to wear girdles during the pregnancy, can you believe that. they said it helped you keep strong stomach muscles, but it didn't and it was painful. i think it's wonderful now that women work out at the gym and exercise during pregnancy. we were also told not to work out, just walk. and then i came out of the horrible 50's where women used to put so much hair spray on their hair you couldn't move it. i got rid of that shit too. my husband loves the fact that i don't wear any underwear. if you keep yourself clean, bathe daily, there is no reason to wear underwear in my opinion. i love the feel of wearing long hippie skirts with no underwear, it's so freeing to me. hippie forever that's what i am hippiewise
At first i thought maybe it'd be weird wearing skirts and dresses that showed my legs but i'm completely comfortable with my legs and their hair
Nice messages the last few days. Yay for natural bodies, yay for natural minds. "Let it fly in the breeze and get caught in the trees, Give a home to the fleas in my hair". I suppose you have to be a certain age to know the words. And don't get me started on deodorants. We get quite enough chemicals that we never ask for, without smothering ourselves with more of them voluntarily. Somehow the human race survived for thousands of years without deodorants and people managed to endure each other (in fact the birthrate was way higher). Why are we so afraid of our natural smell now?
i have really dark and thick leg hair on my lower legs so i shave them every few weeks to a month. it doesn't bother me but i am still too self concious. i never shave my upper legs because the hair is a lot thinner and lighter and doesn't count. i don't shave my pits either or use deodorant.
I use deo (not anti P) in certain instances. It IS a sexual signal, so a bit of tempering helps in professional situations. I also keep some tom's of maine in the camera bag for when I'm a bit too natural for a meeting, or when I paint at shows, since i can get funky from dancing so hard & i'm cutting down on patchouli use...beeen 20 years and I'm looking at clearer, greener, lighter scents. I also advocate the crystal for neutralizing w/o a scent. once the pits are damp (shower or sweat), the crystal will work. apply, give a few secs, check. I can declaim that having body hair only affects a professional gig if you violate the hair= no sleevless rule.
i don't think i've owned a razor for the past 2 years... i did however borrow one once for a "special occasion" to shave my legs. a luckily i have a man that thinks it's sexy when he runs his hands over my hairy legs, however i still don't really show them off at all, uless i'm in a swim suit. i don't wear shorts and i'm very fond of floor length skirts to keep my legs covered. i think weither or not you shave is a very personal decision, and in american culture it's not really one you want to publicize (at least for me) but i figure if we've got hair growing on us it really SHOULD be there. as far as pits go i trim them with sissors in the summer sometimes, that helps with the smell. although i do spend outrageous amounts of time in the shower, because i want to make SURE that i'm clean, because there have been times, when traveling and whatnot that showers are few and far between and with extra hair, you only have extra smell potential.
In the spring/summer I shave every day unless I don't need to. In the fall/winter I never do unless it is for a special occasion
So long as sanitation is available, what can deodorant cure that soap and water can't? Whle I'm at it, during the summer do any of you non-shaving women go swimming at a neighborhood pool and if so, what type of swimsuit do you wear and how do you address the body hair situation?
Again, I've lived in the Netherlands, in Colorado, in Wyoming and in Texas, have rarely shaved, have worn skirts, swimsuits, etc, and before I read this board NO ONE had EVER commented on it. Okay, I have pretty light hair, but still, it doesn't seem to be an 'American' thing as some have mentioned, or at least the Midwest seems to be more laid-back on this. Y'all who do get lots of comments about not shaving, where are y'all at?
Theres two major physical differences between women and girls. Body hair and fat. If you take the fat and hair off a woman you are left with something decidedly more girlish. Society didn't start wanting women to shave or be skinny until they started getting more power. I say love your fuzz...I got really dark thick fuzz too
Good on you. Love the photo-is that you with the giant monarch butterfly wings? If you're not too bashful how about pic with your fuzzy legs? Hope you don't mind me asking! Happy New Year.
I usually don't ever shave my legs unless it's a special occassion or just a treat to the fiancee--- he likes the feel of my legs when I shave, but accepts that I don't care to do it often, so I will once in a while just for "sex appeal" The one thing I have to shave hands down though, is my pits. I just can't handle having hair under my arms... I've tried to let it go a few times, but for some reason it just BOTHERS me. Other than that I don't really shave period. I don't have the time and energy to be vain, really.
yeah thats me with the wings. i'd love to post some hairy leg pics but I don't have any nor do I own a camera. www.hippiegoddesss.com has lots of pics of hairy girls. Aeshna5 I peeked at your previous posts. You really really like hairy women, eh? Can't say I blame ya.
