Another applique question...help!

How the hell do you do intricate details like faces or flowers? Is there a special applique foot for machines? I've been using my see thru zipper foot but I can't see thru it (they lied!) I'm using heat-n-bond light and have been successful with basic designs but when I tried something more intricate, it totally sucked! Cre, what's your secret?!

 

Delicate things like fairy faces I stitch on by hand For stuff like that I just don't trust my machine, ya know? I don't have any special foot that I use otherwise. Just my regular sewing foot. For the flowers and details like that, I have a rockin machine that has all of those sweet stitches built in.
