My High School's math classes are doing a project where the students draw a picture using graph paper. The picture is supposed to be HOLIDAY related. My friends and I are not allowed to draw Menorahs, dradel(excuse me for misspellings), or anything not related to Christmas. I do celebrate christmas, but shouldn't there be some religious tolerance?
Sir, first and foremost, I ADORE your sig pic. My mom buys wrapping paper that has menorahs all over it. We celebrate Christmas. It may just be that she's not quite all there, but I think that you should be able to reflect on the season in any way you want. You're damn right to protest. Just draw the damn dreidel. :H
ok, first off, i was going to comment on the title and "icon" of this thread, i do think they are a little overboard, but then again, you are sort of new, so ill let it go... second of all, did your teacher acctually say you had to draw "christmas" things, or that you can't draw "haunakka" [i know this is probobly wrong] things? maybe they said you can't draw haunakka things cause you aren't jewish [if you are, then I apologize for my animosity, and go for it] so they feel that it might be disrespectful to the faith, but the christmas stuff would be acceptable cause Christianity is basically the default religion of the west so almost everyone celebrates it, Christian or not...
it might just be that it's too easy to draw on graph paper... I mean, c'mon, a star is such an easy shape, same with a xmas tree. Presents are pretty easy too, just draw a present. it's not hard to think up not christmas or hanukkah type things to draw
Forcing someone to draw a religious symbol is illegal in all 50 states. Don't take this the wrong way, but in a fucking math class no less? I'm sure the teacher could find something better to do with your time then make you draw an x-mas tree. Feel free to protest that, legally, you're right. They can't force you to draw religious symbols in math class under the guise of 'graphing'. You could have it taken to court if you really felt like it, and you would win... even in Texas. Where in Texas do you live? If theres an ACLU chapter near you they'd love to get their hands on this kinda stuff. If not just mention the word ACLU to your principal and you can get exempt. Or at least be able to draw a jewish rapping turtle or something. My concern is for you though. Your teacher might be a pissed about having her project changed, so if you do do this, my advice is to check your grade beforehand, give it to the principal, and change teachers next term. Or you could ignore it too. Whatever.
Oh, its public school right? If you go to private school they can have you do about whatever they want.
