Well, we have the best guitarists, bass players and drummers, all that's left is the lead singer. I know I'm probably gonna be mowed down with insults, but i think that Jim Morrison is one of my favourites. He's a messed up, drunken creep, but damn it, a hell of a good entertainer. My honourable mentions go to Robert Plant and Grace Slick.
Robert Plant Janis Joplin If you don't think robert Plant was influenced by Janis, take a look at some footage of her, then look at some of Plant at his best. As Alice Echols says in Sweet Scars of Paradise, no female singer could begin to approach Joplin's level of intensity and ability, it was actually male rock frontmen, like Plant, who came closest to nailing her style and taking it further.
I'm not a U2 fan but Bono is by far the greatest frontman ever..and not only on stage :sunglasse personal favorite: Chris Robinson
Forget who's "best." No one will ever agree. I'm naming my favorites. Ian Curtis (Joy Division) Roger Daltrey (The Who) Roky Erickson (The 13th Floor Elevators) Iggy Pop (The Stooges) Lou Reed (The Velvet Underground) Rob Tyner (The MC5) Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band)
